Derek Ryan spears Nils Hoglander in the nuts, how is this not a 5 minute major penalty for attempt to injure?

The play before is irrelevant when it comes to the penalty for Ryan. Its a 5 on Ryan and a 2 on Hoglander.

Any other call is a mockery of the game and the actual rules the refs are supposed to rule by!

We are now at the low point where we are comparing soft pushes in the chest with spears to the nuts?

Noted that every time someone lightly punishes someone in the the chest you can retaliate with a nut check, why not just throw the rule book out the game when we are at it?

Hoglander rubbed him out with a cross check, Ryan responded with a Bangkok. Both got penalties. Kelly Sutherland is an incompetent asshat who blows a great many calls, but I don’t think he and his associates FUBAR’d this one.

The play Höglander did is a part of hockey, body checking, cross checking all happens in the game and this one was even very soft in comparison to what goes on all the time.

Spears to the nuts of people does not happen within the game, its a cheap shot. There are literally no valid excuse why it was not a 5 + major game misconduct.

Some of the people in this thread need to read the rules again!

Textbook spear using the blade as a spear in the groin, not that it matters. If you slash someone in the nuts on purpose that is a 5 minute game misconduct as well!

Hopefully they forget the rule book when some one destroys McDavid, perhaps thats the only way to make sure people care about cheap shots!

They called a 2 on Hoglander for interference and 2 for slashing on Ryan. Obviously there is a huge difference between pushing someone softly in the boards and nut checking someone from behind! Should have been 5 on Ryan and 2 on Höglander. The refs dropped the ball on that big time!

It should be such an easy call to make that I have to believe the refs made the wrong call on purpose!

Next time McDavid pushes someone it should be a free 5 minute infraction for a Canucks player to commit as revenge on McDavid and only get 2 minutes.

No, Ryan moves his upwards into the groin of Hoglander. He would not have gotten the hit on the nuts without moving the blade of the stick upwards into the private area of Hoglander. That is not a slash! If thats not spearing with the blade then spearing with the blade does not exist and its in the rules, so it does exist!

Nevertheless if you on purpose go after someones nuts from behind in a cowardly manner then its a textbook 5 minute major, could be seen as attempt to injure and put a game misconduct on top of that!
