Could he be a #2 or #3 guy to round out their D core for one year? He's getting older, has a high cap hit, and I believe his contract is running out in 16-17. Could he be had for sort of a bargain?

Options:

DD + 3rd

DD + Matteau + 6th

DD + Flynn

Why would we want DD?

Hey Calgary here, we need cap space so how about we take your crappy contract and give you a rhd that can work well on the pp. what, no don't worry DD would also be our fourth line centre, so we are loving it!!

If he's even your #3 you are in trouble haha.

Fine as a #4/#5 and a PP specialist.

Not sure if DD really fits but it's only one year and I want some young guys to get on the roster on Defense.

I'd do it.

Now that I think about it, why is Montreal adding?

Seems like Calgary makes out like a bandit here. Especially with a 3rd

#1 Weber
#2 Markov
#3 Petry

We already have D #1,2,3.

EDIT: Also, he's a RHD so he would be on the third pair.

No thanks, Habs don't need him.

I know the habs would theoretically looking for a PMD who can eat some minutes and take some load off of Markov, but I hope their ambitions are higher than Wideman.

Also, I see no reason why Calgary would have interest in DD or Matteau.

Edit: I now realize from the post above me that Wideman is a RD, which makes him even less of a fit. Montreal's need is at LD, as it contains an aging Markov, Beaulieu, Emelin, and Barberio

Why would the Habs even consider that.
No way do the Habs want that tool.
DD, The 3rd, Flynn are all worth more than Wideman.

I wouldn't take Wideman for free.

Beaulieu is a pmd on the left side who will take minutes off markov. Sergachev later on as well. We don't need Wideman at all lol. Weber Petry Markov Beaulieu in top 4, Pateryn rounding out the right side is good.

Why are we adding a 3rd on top of a lower cap hit player? Find another team to take him

Beaulieu is a big question mark at this point in terms of whether he can be trusted with such minutes, and whether he can produce. I'm excited about Sergachev but he is likely not ready yet.

I rather Beaulieu than Wideman, and he's not even a LD
