He was acquired by Dubas, you want to believe this is how hockey works. He will be given opportunity after opportunity, even when absolutely not warranted, to make Dubas look smart! But alas when another incident in Leaf land is distracting everyone, his path will follow Petans...l

I actually like him. Last game he was the first man back in our zone a few shifts and handled the center position very well. It's nice having a winger that used to play center and can handle the coverage down low.

You could remove Malgin and Gauthier off the roster and add Korshkov and Agostino and be better for it IMO.

Korshkov maybe, Agostino definitely not. Korshkov mostly depends on where he lands with his consistency. Agostino simply is not an NHLer.

What role is he supposed to be playing on the Leafs?
  • He's clearly not an offensive threat
  • He doesn't appear to PK or be a standout defensively
  • He's not physical
  • He's not a "puck hound"
Surely we must have someone in the organization that could fill one of those roles better than Malgin.

Yeah seems to be a bit of a square peg.
Perhaps the math checks out?

Do you guys drink your own kool-aid? We got the guy for a player in the minors. What in the world were people expecting? We got an NHL player for one who's not.

Would love to see what numbers they are looking at.

My "old school" analysis of
  • a career high 22 points
  • only playing about 50 games a season
  • only getting 12-13 mins a game
over 4 1/2 seasons just about screams "journeyman"

NHL player ? lol

chances of him being with the Leafs past this season are slim to none

The trade of Marchment for Malgin isn't a problem in terms of an asset swap.

For me, the issue is what is Malgin's role on the NHL roster and why is he in the lineup every night?

I get that we have 2 forwards out, but wasn't the forward depth (particularly wingers) supposed to be the great strength of this team? Is Malgin the best we have ?

Did people honestly think that Florida in a heated playoff battle with the Leafs would trade them a player they thought would hurt their own playoff chances?

That was a rhetorical question, no need discussing.

I guess the 7 games 0-0-0 points -5 speaks for itself.

Malgin at this year's TD, is simply Nic Petan at last years.

One could actually make the case that Timashov, who Leafs placed on waivers to free up a roster spot and lost for nothing, was an upgrade on Malgin.

I don't think so. I don't want to say that Marchment was a great player, but I still think with time he could have been a 4th liner. They had Marchment playing in the top 6 before he was traded, and he was out of his element there. It only proves that he's not quite a top 6 forward. That's basically what they got in a trade with FLA.

It was absolutely a good trade. Marchment was absolutely nothing.

Malgin is absolutely above his head though. He's a 12/13 on the depth chart for any decent team.
