Did Calgary not offer him 10.5m per? I believe that was reported which would have made him the 10th highest paid player league wide today. He's the 17th highest paid player currently as is even with taking a lesser offer from Columbus.

He was 16th when he signed in Columbus. Had he taken the Flames offer at the time he'd have been tied for 8th highest paid overall with only 5 forwards (2 of them wingers) making more. Even with the lesser deal he got only 4 wingers make more than he does.

Add in this contract was done during a flat cap I'd say he was paid to be one of the highest scoring wingers.
Yes he should be a PPG guy. Ten games is too small is a sample size to base anything on. Let's see where he is in January. If he is still in this slump, then I will join in on giving him a hard time. But for now, he is fine.

He's paid to score closer to point per game. Maybe 90 points. But a consistent 115 pt guy would command more like $12m per.

I'd say no. He was our best player in Calgary for like 8 years. But he'd better turn it around because this already year 2 in Columbus and he's done squat, looked bad. Maybe married life and blah blah blah is getting to him. Still maybe my favorite Flame of all time. But he'd better get it going as this is sad to see.

His best days are over. Seems he's content with just showing up and getting paid now. He'll still put up some points but don't think he cares about a cup or anything. He's rich and has his family and that seems to be what makes him happy.

He’s not cooked, he’s just uninspired and probably resents whoever told him to sign with Columbus and himself for listening.

how do you buy a cup in a salary cap league?

Fox was drafted 3rd round by the Flames but didn't want to play for them, he played his whole career for the Rangers. AKA homegrown. ever since he grew up watching Brian Leetch as a boy he's been bleeding Rangers Blue. sorry hater that's a homegrown Ranger.
I think the hawks have been the most affected team by the salary cap especially after their championships - they had to shed a lot of players. Can’t think of specific players at the moment but I recollect a lot of players moving on - Campbell, Buff, and a young defenseman that coach Q had wanted to stick around.

Off topic maybe.

Gaudreau and huberdau are the perfect examples of not giving massive deals to career seasons in a contract year.

Gaudreau for Huberdeau, who says no?

It's really unsurprising. He has off ice habits not conducive to long term peak performance. If you worked night life in Calgary at all, you know what I am talking about.

The worst kind of ignorance on HF is when someone knows one thing they heard about five to ten years ago. This thread is full of it.

Johnny's personal issues, if there are any affecting his game, are more likely to be that he's got a new baby at home and another coming soon and he's just tired as hell. He didn't go to Columbus to party, he's a family guy now.

So, Nylander next ?

Columbus says no easily, we are not trading a player who actually chose us and wants to play in Columbus even though he’s struggling right now

He could hire a fulltime babysitter though, why would he be tired? Also, in some way, hockey isn't as bad as a 10 hour work day for being with a family, assuming your family's in your location, which they definitely should be. He could afford to get them a house right next to the rink if need be.
