I'd keep him. I still have hope this kid can become a big time player. Put some confidence in him and play the hell out of him.

I think a lot of people are just looking for a trade while a lot of people are in the win now mode and he makes way to many mistakes. I don't think we're close to winning a cup unless Hank stands on his head and Nash 2.0 becomes Nash 1.0

If you wanna trade him do it when his value is high at least.

I have no faith in Del Zotto to be a core piece moving forward long term.

But the way this whole situation has been handled is really just classic. Pile drove the kid's value right into the ground. I want them to play the hell out of him and allow him to get hot again as he no doubt will. He's an up and down player. THEN trade him when his value is up.

At this rate he is actually going to go for Gryba + Greening which would be horrendus.

dang.. he is 23!! his ceiling is pretty high..

Always has been. The issue he has shown little progress towards reaching it. He's the same player he was at 19-20.

And he is not a shooting threat. Really limits the options of an offensive dman.

Has regressed the last few years..

**** this management. Seriously. Coming into the season, DZ had enough value to bring back a young forward with some top 6 upside. Not anything crazy, but what we were looking for.

So what does this POS management do? Scratch him in favor if crappy John Moore because Moore can SKATE!!! Even though he sucks at everything else related to hockey. Even when Del Zotto has a good game, he sits in the press box the next game. They have effectively drove any value he had straight into the toilet and flushed it down the drain. How are scouts supposed to watch him play if he's constantly scratched in favor of pylons like John Moore or Justin Falk?

They have ruined his confidence, alienated him, and wiped away any trade value he may have had while sitting on their hands. It's January. He's been hearing rumors swirling around him for like, 2 years already. What do you think that does to someone's confidence?

I've been a Del Zotto basher before. But this is no way to treat someone who has grown up in the organization. He does not deserve this. Either play him or trade him. Enough is enough.

Del Zotto has always been an erratic player, but AV and the organization may have made the situation even worse.

We know that Del Zotto has always struggled with consistency, both offensively and defensively, throughout his career, but AV came in here expecting a more consistent player. Both AV and the organization are to blame for these expectations - if AV watched more tape over the summer instead of having a "clean slate," he would have anticipated some of the deficiencies in DZ's game. And management screwed up by misrepresenting what type of player DZ is by blowing smoke up his ass instead of being honest about his shortcomings.

So instead of having a coaching staff that can help DZ become more consistent, we now have coach and a player that are not on the same page. AV admitted they don't have the best relationship and I can't imagine a scenario in which DZ would thrive in this environment. But now his trade value has diminished and he is stuck here as a healthy scratch for the time being.

We'd get less for him now than he is worth to keep.

If we're trading D-men, start with Girardi.

In any form of management, if you have someone that no longer wants to be with the organization, you have to move on.

I'm a big fan of DZ, saw him playing here a long time. He played a lot of good hockey for this organization, including adding to the playoff success the team has had.

But with how things have come to pass, DZ is in a detrimental situation for his career. I can see why he would want out.

AV isn't the same with every player, Pouliot got unconditional TLC until he turned it around, and it's been the complete opposite with DZ.

Ulfie who coaches the D, has billet connections with John Moore through his son Phil.

Add to that rumors about Arniel hating on single party boy types, I can see why DZ and his agency feel he is being alienated.

From the Rangers perspective. Move on. Cash in on the asset, it's not the first time that they've mismanaged an asset, won't be the last.

Get value, bank on Newport in repping their client up and getting you some trade interest if teams are offering pennies on the dollar.

They probably can't get a top 4 D or top 6 forward at this point (and it ain't happening with trade demands). Get 2-3 prospects that are on the cusp from a team desperate for a defenseman in a multiplayer deal.

I doubt we get too much for him but based on his play I wouldn't expect to get much for him either. He stepped it up defensively two years ago when he got a lot more physical and since then has gone back to being how he was for the most part. Out of position too often. And not good enough offensively for someone with his defensive shortcomings. Might be 23 years old but it's already his 5th season and he's played 282 games and shown almost no improvement with the exception of one year. Has to be traded regardless. RFA next year and he certainly won't be on the team.

At this point, AV has made it clear that he doesn't see DZ in the future plans.

Trade.

I agree...

MDZ's failings are his and his alone.

MDZ not sticking in the line up can be attributed to one man...MDZ

He's skittish with the puck in his own zone. His positioning is suspect and his decision making is lacking.

What he really needs is an off-season studying AV's more complex system now that he's got a year of it under his belt, he should be better able to grasp it next year.

He can work on his reads and decisions as well as his positioning.

If Grubby and Greening is the return, then this would be a deal best not made.

He's got talent. He will NEVER be a Norris winner, but he can be serviceable point getter while playing competent D.

Unless we are getting a former 1st round draft pick that is also struggling a bit but has potential to be what was projected, then we need to keep this asset.

We are not losing games BECAUSE of MDZ. He's not been part of the solution but he's also not THE problem. He's A problem, but not THE problem.

Instead of trading him when he was highly regarded, let's make sure we absolutely destroy his value and force him to demand a trade, and then trade him.

I don't see him being here long term or reaching his potential while with the Rangers. It's one of those situations where it's best for both sides to move on from each other. Like everyone else has said though, the Rangers decided to kill his value during all of this. With the amount of LD we had over the summer and Staal basically being back to normal, a trade should have been made to move one of them out and that trade should have been to move Del Zotto.
