I'm not good at recognizing these things. Has AV adapted his defensive strategy to look a bit closer to the Torts' system (there seems to be a lot fewer blocked shots though) or did the players just figure it out?

They figured it out as far as I can tell, he may have made a few slight adjustments based on his personnel but nothing drastic. Seems tighter because it is tighter now that they have learned the system.

Seems to be a good mix of man/zone coverage, the defensive players are making much better reads than they were earlier in the year.

Thanks!

BTW, one thing I don't get is that we dominated the Kings, they barely got a sniff all game. Why was that able to work against them? Unless the Kings just flat out failed to show up.

Not defensive strategy per se but one of most glaring differences between Torts and AV systems is that Torts emphasized "off the glass and out" whereas AV emphasizes "two passes and skate". The center starts wheeling as soon as the defensemen get control of the puck. And the wingers are encouraged to hit him with a pass near the top of the circle.

That's really refreshing. The Rangers were playing neanderthal hockey with Torts.

Definitely a lot less collapsing. Much more pressuring of the point men.
