At least you admitted he's not a legit 1D caliber player.

Theres still 2-3 guys I'd take ahead of him (but also 2-3 guys above him that are worse), but overall it seems like after the top ~5 or so the defensive talent pool just drops off a cliff

It seems like Girard’s stock has plummeted since his poor series against Vegas, but this is the territory where he needs to be considered. Him and Hughes imo. Though, tbh, I think there’s several guys you could lump together here.

Girard was fantastic this season. Elite production and strong defence, sans the Vegas series. He’s been better than Chabot and Doughty for two straight years.

Think it's more about Girard getting exposed in the playoffs for 2 straight years. I don't recall him being good at all against Dallas either

I mean he had 10 points in 15 games and was a +4 in last year in the playoffs.

Personally, I do think his play drops off a bit come playoff time, but the Vegas series wasn’t anything like how he usually plays.

The gap is narrow between Toews/Girard. I could see a case for someone preferring either. I don’t feel that strongly either way, but I slightly prefer Girard.

Girard and Hughes both do not belong anywhere near the 20th best defenseman in the league. Neither are close to McDonagh right now and McDonagh was just added to the poll. Not to mention other better options

No issue seeing McDonagh get some love. He was the best defenceman on a cup winning team this year.
