Big Kings fan, been lurking on here for a while, and finally decided to join in on the fun.

Creating this thread so people can STOP arguing constantly about DL/BLuc on other threads. I just went to the '2019-20 Kings News/Rumors' thread to see if there were any new trade rumors and had to sift through 5+ pages of non stop arguing over this topic. I've seen the same argument happening on a lot of other threads too and it's pretty ridiculous. If you want to go back and forth arguing about this then by all means knock yourselves out, but please do so here, and leave other threads to the topics they're designed for.

IMO Blake is doing a decent job given the circumstances. Yes, you could argue he should be doing more now and should've done more in the past, but then again say he trades someone like Quick and/or Carter in 2018 and started rebuilding. Most Kings fans would have s**t their pants in anger on the spot. Plus, I personally kind of like how he's being patient and waiting to make deals he's comfortable with instead of just trading players for the sake of doing something. That said, at some point you have to make things happen. These next couple months are really going to show us what kind of GM he's going to be. If he can make a couple solid deals and move out guys like Toffoli, Martinez, etc for decent returns then the Kings should be in a good position moving forward. If not, then I think we can all start to question if he's the right guy for the job.

Also, a lot of people seem worried with the lack of an articulated vision for what kind of team he's building. As another poster pointed out in a different thread, I think the best option is to continue doing what he's doing and draft BPA and acquire as many assets as possible and then start to see what you have as players come up through the system. We still don't really know what we have in a lot of our prospects.. Yes, a guy like Turcotte is labeled as a future top 6, 2-way center, but does he actually become that?? There's a good chance but we really don't know. So it would be a mistake IMO to decide on one direction/style and then make potentially rash decisions with players when you still don't really know what you have coming up in the system.

Bless you for making this thread. You're the hero we needed.

Also, a request. Can we please stop referring to this mythical "BLuc"? It's not even chuckle-worthy at this point. If it's a comment regarding an area or decision that falls under the GM's purview, just say Blake - even if you hate the guy.

Thank god for this thread. So sick of the Dean v Blake debate.

I’m sick of it too. Some curmudgeons can’t let go of the past and keep hanging onto the glory days.

I wonder if Ducks fans want Randy Carlyle back. Oh wait, they did get him back and he worked wonders. I’m sure Brian Burke would be a great hire as well seeing that he won a Cup... oh wait, he turned Toronto into a complete mess. What other relics of the past can we keep bringing up?

It's amazing the standards that fans have for success.....what I mean is, if your team isn't winning, it's failure, which is the point of sports, but it seems no one takes into consideration that the majority of the time, teams/players, are going to fail.....but they refuse to adjust their standard

Both have done good things and made mistakes.

I will forever be thankful for the legacy Lombardi left.

My feelings on the legacy Blake leaves behind TBD.

You can't really compare the two. Very different situations.

I really don't want to re-hash the Blake/Lombardi arguments.

Should be titled DL vs AEG. Obviously AEG thought a couple old time, rock n roll, plastic banana throwbacks from the 90s could win more cups and do a better job.

It seems as though the ones who have their pitchforks out can’t get that point across through their thick skulls and find this reasoning unacceptable. They need to point their finger and blame all of the team’s misfortunes on one man who they still resent over what transpired almost two decades ago.

Dean Lombardi has an actual fan base around here. I've never seen a GM have fans before. It's pretty odd.

They'll deflect the blame of any error he made.

Dean didn't buy out Richard's when he had a chance, but it's because he's so virtuous and loyal.

When the team wasn't living up to expectations under Lombardi it wasn't his fault, it was the player's fault, even though Dean is responsible for putting the team together.

Lombardi shouldn't have been fired because he was going to turn things around. Nevermind the fact that he stripped the cupboard bare and iced a team with the highest actual payroll in the NHL while still not making the playoffs.

DL fans also seem to hate Dustin Brown, but they'll tell you what a great leader party boy Jarrett Stoll was, not because he actually was, but because Dean acquired him.

I’m ready to move on from DL, firing him and Sutter were the last correct decisions AEG made for the Kings.
