From today's show:

There was an attitude that because they had proven so many times they would rise to the occasion that they could flick a switch anytime they wanted and obviously that wasn’t the case. I do think a lot of it is between the ears, although the physical part does play a dimension. But what I’ve learned from this, it takes a toll mentally and we should have done a better job to direct our focus or overcome that hurdle, and we did not.

The audio of the interview is at the bottom of the page.

LOL, what the hell was that question about "friction" with Sutter and Lombardi? I appreciate Fred for giving the Kings some coverage, but c'mon man, stop making crap up.

Thanks for posting the interview though!

That's Fred's MO. He basically frames questions to clear the air definitively on any BS that might be out there. He doesn't actually believe those things. The guy is a big Kings fan and I'm sure he knows as much or more than any of us. If you've listened to any of his other interviews, he does the same thing. He's not trying to get a scoop, he's dispelling myths.

Exactly. I've actually read a few people's comments questioning if it was time to move on from Sutter. This quick question gave Lombardi the opportunity to clearly dispel that nonsense. It was a good interview. Roggin asked hard questions in a respectful way. It's obvious he knows his Kings hockey and I wouldn't be surprised if he skims a hockey board or two to get a feel for what's on fans' minds.

The interview overall was fine, just that I don't get where he got the idea that there was any friction with management and Sutter on his approach to hockey. That part of the interview was ludicrous.

And the way Fred brought that question up was that he based it on a rumor.

Well, the quote about them flipping a switch or whatever closes the case on my belief that this team was arrogant and let the insane 2014 run go to their heads. Can't forget this is still a very young team and that the 2012 team was not feted in nearly the same way as the '14 team was, i.e. "Dynasty, Greatest SC run ever etc..." The 2012 team still had something to prove it seemed since there were whispers, albeit moronic, of "fluke" and other disparaging comments. This past season though? They played like they would just be invited to the playoffs like a Memorial Cup host ignoring the fact that they pretty much had to claw their way into the playoffs the past several seasons. Classic case of reading too many press clippings.

Fatigue--both mental and physical--was definitely an issue as well but this arrogant, "flip the switch" attitude is what gets you to lose to Buffalo 1-0 and be on the outside looking in.

We'll be good if the long break lets them recharge physically while missing the playoffs--which is embarassing--sparks them to prove something again.

I guess this is as good of a place as any to ask this. What the hell is up with the George Michael avatar?

George Michael? That reminds me...

I remember watching his sports show, the George Michael Sports Machine, after the Fred Roggin' Sports Report on NBC.

As a frequent insomniac, I know that show well. Big King's avatar is from the George Michael that is the bathroom afficianado

Horrible interview...Geez.

Seriously asked on friction with Sutter off a rumor? His source needs to get written up for that one if employed by the station.

Yeah, I thought the friction question was pretty weak, and not really sure where he came up with it. The talk about changing the team to a speed team was nothing more than him just jumping on the trendy topic of the moment. The Kings as DL pointed out, have a distinct identity and won't be chasing the current trend like so many teams do.

He got it from the Coast Guard.
