David Runblad

Runblad could be the biggest dark horse at the 2009 draft imo. Right now, he is getting around 20 min a night on the blueline when his SEL team SAIK are upsetting Linkoping. He has chipped in a few goals this series also. This 18 year old kid looks like a veteran blueliner right now. I think he is the most positive surprise.

His World Junior performance was enough to convince me that he could be something special. I watched a few Skelleftea games after the World Juniors and Rundblad was getting a ton of ice and was playing very well against the men. I wouldn't be surprised at all if some GM's have him in their top 10 right now.

yeah pretty good size and very good puck moving abilities. He has been hovering around 25-30, but could go top15 imo.

Yeah, I was very impressed with him at the WJC. I'd love to see Montreal draft him.

Yeah but I doubt Montreal pick a D-man with all their blueline prospects. Plus I don't think he'll drop to their range.

really? what is his offensive upside and potential role in the NHL? it just seems surprising to me that he only has 10 assists in 45 games this season in the SEL given what people have said about how much icetime he is getting.

i think he's only just started getting the ice time

it's my understanding younger player over there barely play at 1st and the scorers miss the 2nd assist a lot of the time.

his skill set is a lot like green's 6"2, unreal skater with a very high skill level and great shot. he needs to work on his D but then again green still could use some work there

10 points for a Dman in the SEL in his draft year is very impressive, regardless of ice time. Kronwall had 5 points in 37 games, Enstrom had 6 in 42, Kim Johnsson had 0 in 2and Lidstrom had 2 in 19 games, during their draft seasons. I guess that puts Hedman's 21 points into perspective as well.

PS: By no means am I suggesting that Rundblad is going to outproduce these players at the NHL level. But I would love to see him in Vancouver, however.

And he has 4 points in 6 games now in the playoffs. Which made me make this thread.

Karlsson has much higher offensive upside, but Rundblad has the size advantage.

Based on what really? Rundblad and Karlsson have same offensive upside. Even if you gonna give the edges, it's definately not the case when you use the word "much".

I dunno if Karlsson really has more offensive upside...he might be a better PP QB, but Rundblad will be a better D-man period.

I figured their O upside was about similar when I saw them at the WJC. But really, put Karlsson in this year's draft, I figure he goes where Rundblad goes AT THE MOST.

I'd like to see Dallas take a shot with this guy if he's still around when their pick comes up - the Stars do have alot of young talent on the blue line already but I believe in taking the best player available with each draft pick and this has definetly impressed.

he'll probably go 10-20. Some GM's have to list this guy in their top 10 prospects.

Having watched both of them play at different levels for a long time. Perhaps much was over the top, but Karlsson definitely has a higher offensive upside. Both have great vision, but I give the edge to Karlsson, and he also has a better wrister and slapshot. But Rundblad obviously will have a great advantage in chance of success due to his size.

Love to see Runblad and Edler together on the canucks PP for the next decade. Deadly Edler Runblad combination.

That looks awfully good, as a Canucks fan - he is the guy I want.

What's strange is that on the March ISS rankings, he has fallen out of the top 30. That is shocking!!!!!

I see him drafted in the top 20, and I have seen him ranked in the top 10.

Well, he has been pretty consistently ranked between 25-40, so I'm not sure about that. ISS has him out of the top 30 now (although he is probably in the 31-35 range). McKeens has him at 38. TSN had him at 28. He is actually more consistently ranked than most others in that range. His relative ranking with CSB actually probably has him in the top 25, but that is hard to guage with separate rankings.

I was definitely impressed with his skating at the WJC, but at the same time, it often didn't translate into quality offensive chances. Karlsson was much more offensively efficient, although it was only a few games.

All that being said, with his playoff performance as described above, it looks like he could be a riser.
