I really like his style. He play mature, safe, two-way, great mobility, great skating and great passing ability, just like Kaiden Guhle. People need to understand that drafting Guhle type of D, you are going to draft them very very high. Habs have been very lucky to grab Guhle at 16.

Scouts did really well two draft to high players like Slaf and Reinbacher for build a future great playoff team. They are going both having massive impact when playoff time!

You swing for the homerun given context and potential

If we drafted Reinbacher at 25 I'd be disappointed with his current season. Imagine being a GM and having the options we had last year and drafting Reinbacher, oh wait, that's what happened!
If Reinbacher was picked at 25OA and playing top pairing, 20mins+ a night in the NL, and at .37 PPG without PP time on a bad team we'd be talking about him like the next Roman Josi.

In terms of our "options":

Leonard's D+1 production is solid but not impressive in the NCAA. Simashev has done very little to change his projection. Danielson is below PPG in the WHL. Dvorsky looks solid in the OHL but hasn't really addressed the skating issue. Willander has been okay but uninspiring at BU from what I've seen. Benson scored a nice first NHL goal but hasn't really changed his projection as a smart but small/slow, two-way winger. Yager looks the same as last year. Wood is currently at a lower PPG than in his draft year.

Finally... there's nothing surprising about what Michkov is doing in the KHL. Same team, same usage, same issues, slightly better production. Still couldn't make the big team, still don't know whether he would have wanted to play here, still a small one-way winger. Wish we could have had both but that's not how it works.

Calling Benson slow is hilarious.

"done little to change his prrojection"

Well other than scoring 0.5 PPG in the NHL in his D+1 year.

There are plenty of GMs who already regret passing him, no doubt about it.

Calling Benson slow is hilarious.

He's agile and his feet are constantly engaged, but has poor straight line speed for a player his size. Compare him to Savoie and it's night and day. Haven't seen any different in the NHL.

Slower than most players his size? Sure. But he's still quicker than most players. And his edge work is absolutely ridiculous so it doesn't really matter.

Though being smart and agile will make up for a lot of it, I think it has mattered for projecting him as a dynamic top line player. Creating off the rush and/or opening up space for teammates using speed are valuable tools for scoring wingers. He can still be an elite player without it. Not what the post was about, but if you'd prefer, I can call him a small/not fast winger.

Or, simply, a living human being who regularly wears skates.

We never change on these forums.....I've mostly avoided this thread since we drafted Reinbacher as I knew it would be s shit show. Some posters have zero f***ing patience at all. Can we give our prospects a few years before calling them busts?

f***ing doom and gloom all the f***ing time...it's f***ing annoying as shit.

I remember when people were freaking when Dawson Mercer (who we passed on) was playing and producing in the NHL and Guhle was "still" in the WHL.

Hope I'm wrong but to get a second pairing Dman at 5 isn't the greatest hockey idea

HFhabs: I had Nemec/Jiricek at 1st in 2022 and we picked this f***ing goof!.

HFhabs in 2023 : How the f*** do we pick a dman in a loaded draft at forward, and a second pairing dman.

Reality : Reinbacher is better than both Nemec and Jiricek and he is also looking better, in my humble opinion, than Levshunov and Dickinskon who are the top Ds in 2023.

So all the stat heads who went on and on about his production last year, where ya at?

Watch him play. @montreal makes it very easy.

You wont need to look at hockeydb to be reassured.

Top pair RD upside in spade.

The irony is clearly lost on you. The big argument for Reinbacher last year was his stats- classic hockeydb scouting.

I heard Pierre Luc Dubois wanted to become a hab and this is why he is struggling with LA . If he comes home hé becomes a 40 goal 80 points minimum scorer and would be a bargain .

His time in Columbus, peg and la only proves how much he wants to come home . Come on Hughes make it happen :)
His trade request will be coming shortly, no worries, we will have another 200+ page thread discussing this mediocre forward soon enough
