Because the aren't many of them, and they speak the same language? That's kinda how that works everywhere... doesn't mean people in 1 group hate people in the other groups lol
No shit, I love how that's exactly what I said

I'm just asking questions stemming from an anthropological curiosity about group dynamics. Is he talking about friend groups or how they are broken up at practice? Neither seem exactly true, hence my confusion, I'm wondering if the article is translated poorly or he is misquoted. Just shoddy anthropological work to not even account for the Euros. What clique was Slaf in?

Yeah, the most time he was here it was a big roster camp with around 70 and then 30 players so i guess he was more talking about this rather than the regular roster guys anyway.

But not that surprising if guys like Savard, RHP or whatever speaks more together than with other guys.
I would assume age and familiarity has more to do with cliques than anything, to be honest

Exact word by word translation of the article if it helps:

"There are hierarchies and groups. There are the Canadians, the US Americans and the French-speaking Canadians. Things are a bit egotistical. But they also do a lot, go out to eat together, and even watch football. Before the NFL duel between the Buffalo Bills and the Las Vegas Raiders, Reinbacher had to have the rules explained to him."

What do you think a better translation of egotistical is? Perhaps self-focused?

Everyone is trying to outcompete everyone else for a job, but there are team bonding activities at the end of the day

That's how I would read it too.

Austrians (like the Dutch, in my experience), tend to speak their mind sometimes bluntly compared to our NA standards. I wouldn't read more than that.

You're grasping at straws. Just because he named 3 groupe doesn't mean that's the exact number, most of those guys literally just met lol I'd bet some of them went from group to group as camp went on

I wasn't going to address the crazy straw man fallacy you threw out originally, because that is a full time job on these boards, but "grasping at straws" hahaha

In my initial post I said I wasn't going to read too much into it. I just think it is an interesting assessment of the group dynamic, never did I say I believed the groups were based on geography, that is something Reinbacher said.

I just think it is an interesting assessment from an 18 year old European outsider. Obviously the groups are not segregated, Caufield and Suzuki are attached at the hip. I'm not saying Reinbacher lied or overplayed the situation, just that it is interesting that is how he felt about the situation.

Besides, what does an Austrian kid know about the difference between Wisconsin and Ontario anyway?

That empty net goal from Reinbacher was insane
Perfect lobe to beat 2 guys trying to block it, it looked easy for him, but this is not, the degree of difficulty was very high, especially from distance like this.

Nice to hear he looked great, will try to watch him tomorrow.

I think people hear Petry and think of how long it took Petry to arrive, and his relatively short peak and get mad. But I don't see DR taking that long to arrive, and think that he's a smarter player than Petry anyhow.
I always felt Petry was way overrated defensively

He did look great!

Had a lot of jump and tried some things offensively. Almost got his first goal in the first period.

Not really. The word used in the article (paraphrase of what Reinbacher apparently told the writer) is "egoistisch" which could even be translated to "egoistic" or "selfish". I don't doubt that's what Reinbacher said. This has nothing to do with the actual NHL team but at the bigger camp there are guys fighting for jobs...not just for jobs on the actual NHL team. Of course they're being selfish. Also keep in mind we're talking about the impressions of an 18yo kid who may not have fully understood everything going on in his 1st NHL camp.

Petry stinks defensively personally if rein becomes Petry I'll be disappointed , with what he's shown at 18 I think he becomes way better , Petry wasent even good until he was in his mid late twenties.

And I'm a huge Petry fan I just think rein can be better
Petry wasn't that bad. But he sure had brain cramps.
