People should go re-read the Price draft thread. Same disgust can be found there too.

Reinbacher isn't nearly as bad as people here seem to think.

It's disappointing only because it's a "team building" pick and not a wildly offensive player pick.

He's a REALLY good player.
And it's warranted. Still take Kopitar over Price 10/10.

Expectations are one thing. Being completely clueless and passing on a generational talent is something else.
“Generational talent” lmao. Name one generational talent that was passed over by 6 teams. You cant even use the Russian excuse anymore because he wasn’t even the first Russian taken lmao. This board went full nutjob crazy over Michkov, tinfoil hats, conspiracy theories and everything. It’s over now, time to come back to reality.

Well, Michkov's level of talent would have been exciting, but Reinbacher is an interesting pick too. Guhle - Reinbacher looks like a really good pairing for years to come that can really anchor our team.

needed someone to play with Guhle.

Guhle-Reinbacher
Hutson-Barron
Xhekaj-Mailloux
It is a good group. We have that going for us.

But damn... we still don't have that franchise scorer. I think CC will be great for goals but he's never going to be a top 10 point getter. We could've had a couple of 50 goal guys in the lineup.

I think some of you have a hard time conceiving that a pick can be both BPA and a need. they aren't mutually exclusive.

This is the case here.
It's ironic that everybody keeps saying we NEED an elite forward but somehow taking Reinbacher is us drafting for need.

If michkov is a generational talent why is he going 7? Why is he being picked behind a fellow Russian who'd biggest flaw is offensive production?

Don't get me wrong I was actually hoping we would pick him, but the fact is the KHL is probably the weakest it's been in a long time, and you can't compare Matvei to his peers the last year and a half. There are a billion real red flags both on and off the ice. There's a very possible chance he's not the hero that 3/4 of this board has psyched themselves into believing.

We have a D core that if developed properly projects to be good enough to win a stanley cup, and I think people are underrating our forwards too. Caufield can score 50. Dach and Suzuki have all the potential to be a 1a 1b. And then there's Slafkovsky, who knows what he turns into but the sky is the limit. We're in good shape.

In Josi's case it was his D+1. In his D year he had 8 pts in 35.

True.

And also something I learned leading up to the draft regarding the Swiss league, teams were allowed to have one more imported player on their roster than before. I believe they were only allowed 5, but now they can carry 6. And also, a lot of players who left the KHL came to the Swiss league. So the league had more quality players now.

The person who mentioned this pointed it out to show how impressive what Reinbacher did.

Feels like I've been on a rollercoaster the past few hours.

When the pick was announced I hated it. Then it immediately starting growing on me and as of 9:00pm I'm pretty damn excited about it.

Besides michkov who would have realistically been a better choice? Ryan Leonard would have been solid. But overall impact on a game, would he bring more impact than reinbacher could?

I honestly love this pick. His tools are very nice. VERY nice.

Yup. Posters on this board have a history of overreacting like little children and ending up plain wrong. We'll only know in 3-4 years if it was a good pick or not.

Another thing I like about him is that his team isn't exactly a powerhouse, they got promoted in 21-22 and as they moved up a league Reinbacher also moved up a lot in influence, becoming their best overall defenceman arguably.

To give an example as to how moving with a promoted team isn't always easy, Simon Kindschi was the best performing defenceman for Kloten over the past few years, 27 years old now, right in his prime. Scored 40 and 35 points in the B league. In the A league? 2. Éric Faille was their best scorer for three years, just went from 72 points to 24. To double your production as a draft eligible player on a promoted team in a league that is notoriously hard on young players is really impressive.

Oof. Yeah you’re right my bad he just went nearly a ppg at 17 yrs old in the 2nd best league in the world. Looking forward to punt 110 pts for the flyers in 3 years.

My jinx....
