Im always puzzled why some organizations remain so loyal to their below average coaches when guys like gallant are available. You'd trade a player for a better one in a second, but with coaching its somehow different

Uhhh isnt it obvious???? Because a GM can only fire so many coaches. What happens when Gorton fires Quinn and the team still struggles under the next coach? There is nobody left to take the blame.

The coaching around the league is very subpar anyway.

but isn't hiring a good coaching staff part of being a good GM?

Good point. Just looking at rangers, Gorton still has the youth/rebuild card in his pocket for a couple of seasons, so he should still have the balls to fire DQ tho.

I think Gallant is overrated, basically just that one good season.

Hasn't had a losing season in 6 seasons (really 5 if you combine the two seasons when he was fired) and made the playoffs 3 times out of those 6 seasons (and again, two of those seasons were cut short due to his firing). He's an excellent coach.

I’m just so mad about losing 5 straight 3rd period leads and coming away with only 1 ROW (OT).

I don’t know what to pin it on. Young kids can’t mature when they’re constantly losing these games. It actually impedes growth and kills confidence. It just extends the period of “learning how to win”.

If the Rangers can’t start to hold leads and change these types of games, then I don’t see how you can move forward.

Underlying numbers are great. Dictating play is awesome. Being the better team is nice. At some point, that has to be converted to production and W’s. If not, then you’re just prolonging this group from taking a leap.

The 103 point season with Panthers was truly amazing. Their 1st line had 44 year old Jagr and Jussi Jokinen, both of whom crashed hard right after the season. Really got the best out of them before they were done

Gallant is a pain in the ass for any GM. His intentions are always pro-player but there’s a reason why he keeps getting fired. He likes his way and no questions asked, and I like that. But it’s not a good recipe for long-term growth.

Quinn is not running a full rebuild which is what he was signing up for. Panarin, Kreider, Trouba are not moves you make when you really rebuild. I think Quinn is good for the kids but clearly most of the vets aren’t leading or responding.

Buyer beware if you fire him for a retread. A veteran coach knows playing kids doesnt win games. If you think Kakko doesnt play a lot now just wait when a Boudreau type shows up and plays him even less.

I have zero issues with Quinn’s handling of the kids. Not one. Strategy/common sense is a different story

I mean definitely an upgrade over our clown.

My issue with Quinn isn’t even so much the poor results (at least not yet, although there is a concern there). It’s that I worry he’s going to stall out the development of a number of our prospects and they either will miss the chance to become what the should’ve as Rangers or even worse we will trade them because our evaluation of them is skewed due to their play under Quinn and they will reach their potential elsewhere.

Hard to zero in on a bad goal in overtime when the coach is playing a "goalie rotation" (for...some reason) and, more importantly, the team looks horrible trying to defend a lead in the third period.

Nothing Quinn does or doesn't do matters as long as they have zero guys playing like top 9 centers and in particular Mika getting dummied defensively who seems to have lost a ton of strength and stamina.

Everything else (JMFJ, Kakko, Gauthier, whatever) right now is arguing over deck chair placement on the titanic.

Why are we all better coaches than Quinn? It's not rocket science.

There are real critics one can have with Quinn. Not one of them deals with stagnation or lack of progress from the kids.
