I am not sure that Quinn is here to lead the team to the promised land (depends on what your definition of that is, I guess), to be honest with you. And yes, some people are a lot more credible in their criticisms than others.

But again, barring the wheels completely coming off the bus, Quinn is not getting fired and will start his 4th season behind the bench next year.

Do you have a crystal ball? 10 to 1 odds ...I say no..laying a hundy:sarcasm:

Personally, I think Kakko looks like a better player. He just has to wait his turn. Rangers are loaded on the wing which any coach would take advantage of.

The puck movement on the power play is fantastic and thats after no activity for 6 months. A lot of shots are missing the net. Why? They’re rusty lol. Players need repetition to get their hands and timing down. Ever hear of midseason form? Well These guys are in training camp form and the coach — any coach — knows this.

Personally, I’d rather have the veterans see more ice than the kids in the early stages of a season. You aren’t basing your playoff hopes on what teenagers do, or if they play an extra 1:30 a game. Kakko and Lafreniere will play plenty when the time is right. Now isn’t the time.

Or you can do what the Debbies are doing and giving the franchise player max minutes

Maybe the coach is riding his main guys because they barely had a training camp after a six-month layoffs and no exhibition games.

Maybe the GM is advising the coach to ride the guys they gave big contracts to.

Maybe the coach thinks the younger kids aren’t outperforming the veterans to gain more ice time.

Maybe the coach knows the young guys don’t have chemistry with the veterans after trying it in practice.

Maybe the young kids are happy with their roles and are willing to learn or improve in other areas while the established veterans who succeed under Quinn deserve the bigger roles.

Maybe the fans and media with zero coaching experience created unrealistic expectations for prospects they’ve been pumping for years and are in blame-mode when those expectations aren’t met as fast as they wanted them.

Maybe we have already seen Quinn coach for two years and this is more of the same.

The Debbie's don't have any vets who can play better.

Literally nobody with any common sense would play kakko over panarin mika kreider buch etc

14 mins of es toi is just fine for a team loaded in the wing.

Right now the biggest problem area is strome and kakko doesn't address that.

No crystal ball. Just reading tea leaves, seeing absolutely no smoke or fires in any way shape or form. Looking at statements made in the past and listening to what our own insiders whisper.

So who do you propose they replace in the top-6?

Regarding the Devils, 1) they do not have nearly the talent that the Rangers do on the wings in the top-6 & 2) they have absolutely no expectations of making the playoffs.

1st line 10-93-89
2nd line all day long...laf-filip=K2
We are after all trying to give them experience...especially since they have't played in forever.
Drop Kreider along with Strome and whoever

He is an OK coach nothing special and if his inconsistency's continue JD will not hesitate to have a conversation with Gorts. I also think Martin was hired as a potential fallback.

Time will tell. I have seen nothing that indicates what you state.

1) What in Lafreniere's play makes him deserving of overtaking Kreider right now? Or frankly that is ready for such a role?

2) Strome has been playing like doggy poop, I will give you that. But following the success that he and Panarin had last year, I doubt that in the eyes of Quinn, that he is ready to move on from him. As would be the case with most coaches after only 3 games.

Hughes is only seeing this spike in TOI because Hischier is out to start the season. Once he's back, I'd expect the usage will be distributed similar to how it is now with Hughes and Zajac with Hischier seeing ~14 5v5 min to ~11 for Hughes.

Kakko can address it by being traded for PLD.

Unless the team really goes on like an epic losing streak i think we're stuck with Quinn for a while

Quinnie's a star whisperer of sorts. They got a guy who is great at developing star offensive players. See DeAngelo, Mika, Bread, Strome's resurgence, Eichel at BU (torched cawlidge hockey). Since the team went into rebuilding mode they got a guy who is great is developing players. He's a shitty X's & O's guy, but you have Martin now who is up there with the best minds in all of coaching. It's like people used to say about Roger Neilson, not a great head guy for his particulars, but a great coach. This is why you don't name a captain sometimes, the rank out-echoes the duties of the job.

With the season being a series of games that are back to back the way they are, I'm confident that they become more forward thinking with their games. They got a little ruffed up last game. It wasn't a low effort game, thought the PP clicked except for the 6-4. A couple of lapses 5v5, and Hughes going the way he was, was the difference.

The Rangers giving insane PP1 usage is not even real. The Average so far this year is 66.7%. They are barely above it. They have normal usage.

The old school PP Conversion Rate is what you care about here. It's not the participation trophy approach, but one that generally works out well.

I can't say I am too concerned about 2 losses in games where the goaltending was awful.

What does concern me is that its been 155 games (plus 3 in the playoffs or play-ins or whatever) and I still can't put my finger on something the team consistently does well under Quinn.

The transition game is hit or miss. They are lousy at retrieving dump ins. They dont forecheck or cycle well. They rarely backcheck. Neutral zone defense is non-existent. They dont defend the blueline. Coverage is sloppy. Effort is inconsistent. Players are undisciplined. There's accountability, but it seems arbitrary.

The good seems to be relegated to individual performances "Look at how great player x (who is great) is playing under Quinn!" and abstract stuff like teaching young players to win or building the right culture.

I get that he's like this plucky outsider who says all the right things (and hiring him seemed like a very non-Rangers thing to do) but is there anything BESIDES that engenders such support from people?

I feel like soon we are going to have a new coach trying to coordinate a group of young players with great intentions but bad habits who are going to have an uphill battle simultaneously both learning to execute a new system and learning how to do all the things that add up to effective hockey.
