And the offenses of Johnson being terrible? Quinn is basically throwing a game to prove a point.
I don’t really feel like Johnson and DeAngelo are related in anyway tbh

And saying their throwing a game feels a bit hyperbolic. Tony is a good player but they’ll be fine. And we have no idea if he’s even 100% out today. He could very well play and everyone is getting worked up over nothing

Edit: he isn’t playing but overall point is the same lol

so should the NFL culture or NHL culture wise up? You can take a dumb penalty and celebrate yourself without being spoken to in the NFL yet heaven for bid you slam a door in the NHL.
Completely different situations.

When the coach reprimands you previously for the exact same issue and you continue to do it, at that point Tony gets what he deserves

Plus add in his berating of referees in the past and you’d figure he would learn to keep his emotions in check

Quinn said he's sitting because it's "the right thing to do". f***ing Quinn is going to ruin this franchise.

No because.

A. He won't get fired.
B. I'd rather he figure it out.

B is a concern. We're a young team with players with a ton of skill on cheap contracts. B could potentially ruin the development of players like Kakko and Chytil and/or we lose the window where we could have these quality players on the cheap. This was never meant to be a year with any kind of playoff success, but this needed to be a year where we took a huge step developmentally for next year and the year after. Losing or even regressing would absolutely kill this team's window and chances.

I think he will stagnate the development of the young players and f*** over this franchise. I pretty much despise him at this point.

It's not too late even if he screws up this year completely. The NHL offseason is basically just over 4 months for the teams that don't make the playoffs. So it's like one long season in a way.

Many of the Rangers survived the 92-93 season and were just fine the next year. Leetch/Richter/Granato/Turcotte/etc. survived the end of Bergeron/Esposito Era etc. which was much more dysfunctional than this.

I can’t say I get that sense.

I do think that unless he has the trust of his players, his tenure here is going to come to a close sooner rather than later.

why would he have anybody's trust he has no proven track record in NHL as a head coach or as assistant coach. Who cares about NCAA?

yeah, the leeway for NFL players greatly exceeds the NHL.

This is ridiculous. Look I understand Tony took a dumb penalty but benching one of your top defensemen this quickly makes no sense especially keeping a Jack Johnson In the lineup

it’s ridiculous. Opening night, nobody played well. First live action since August, first game playing a different position, youngest team in the league, opponent was a few games from the finals, etc. It’s not as if the Head Coach had a better game.

Do you feel there’s any sense of urgency from a management perspective considering the shorter season?

The problem with that is it ignores the fact that we also came out flat in the bubble. Once is a mistake, twice is a habit.

yeah, but that’s not all on ADA. Young team, we saw how poorly the team plays the boards. That’s personnel and/or youth . . . and maybe a bit of coaching. ADA isn’t the Captain here.

I don’t think players pay to much attention to that.

They’re more focused on the approach, the strategy, the communication, and ultimately the results.

If a coach can hit those check marks, his players follow. If he doesn’t, his boned.

Kinda playing devils advocate here, but if ADA is mouthing off to the Refs telling them to F-themselves in game 1 of a season where we are stuck with the same few refs all year, maybe it IS a good idea to send a message and scratch him. Not particularly to the team, but to the officials who we are stuck with.

Don't have much love for the refs (or that extra penalty even being assessed) but you gotta play the "game" and i'm not talking about hockey. There just may be a reason why we seem to always be on the wrong side of every call, every game.

I think there’s a focus on progress. That will be where Quinn has to show results - period.

If young talent isn’t progressing, and veteran talent isn’t performing, that would deal Quinn’s fate.

is that what ADA was doing?

Tony has calmed down about from earlier in his career. Yes I understand the officials situation but we rely a lot on Tony and in a shortened season I don’t see this as a good idea

yes, the team has to show progress. The vets have to play well. Are the kids physically mature enough to play hard in the corners vs these veteran opponents?

I dont think its possible to defend his coaching the past 4 games.

It's 4 games but we should be laying a structurally secure foundation for the youth. Not chaos.
Except it’s one game. If we are going to start to tack on games then why not start at the beginning of last year?
