Quinn has always rewarded effort over results. It’s why Howden gets double shifted and why Fast and Staal were on the ice at the end of games down a goal. On one hand, it’s a fine message—“play the game hard and you’ll be rewarded.” On the other hand, you can easily piss off your better players doing this and the losses can pile up quickly.

because they think Johnson is good and did what he had to do

There really needs to be a sad emoji to respond to posts to. I don't get with Jack Johnson, not like he's some big gritty tough guy. At least then you can kind of understand it from a #toffness angle. What does he do for the team to think he's good?

My two cents on Quinn:

- this is his last year regardless of the outcome.
- came here to develop young kids, needed development himself. We need a proven NHL coach.
- Torts was D first, O lacked. AV was O first, D became whack after Torts wore off. Now Quinn is .... ? idk, just feel he was a rookie himself.

idk but Brind'amour is what want. A dog, a Stanley Cup Champion himself, league vet ...

It's one game only, yes, but this clock has been ticking for a long time. There are habits that have settled in, that he couldn't get rid off.

My overreacting take atm would be: damage control.

--------------------

I always come back to America's Game, 2002, TB Buccaneers, for some reason. I quote: "While Tony Dungee was a pad on the shoulderpads, Gruden was a kick to the shin."

But this is not precise either, because Warren Sapp says: "The Bucs was nothing before Tony got there. He put the pyramid right in front of us. This is what we gotta do, if we wanna be successful. Every body got they role (and so on) "

Idk if this is transferable to hockey, but we need someone to put a f***ing pyramid down. Teach them from the bottom up.

I want an explanation for Gauthier, then.

I don't know but I also don't think his mind would have changed regardless of what Johnson actually does

the NHL is a reputation league. it's incredibly hard to lose a reputation in the league no matter how hard you try

see: Staal, Marc

At least Staal was a lifelong Ranger that some might argue deserved loyalty. Was Johnson ever good? Honest question.

Here’s my take on quinn.

he’s in over his head.

hes frequently outcoached.

his teams come out flat and unprepared regularly.

he’s petty and fatherly. His coaching style is inconsistent. He’s stubborn and for the most part Inexperienced. He’s attractive and poised but lacks the coaching gravitas necessary for a big time original 6 team.

His in game adjustments are for the most part nothing more than shaking lines up and that starts way too early usually.

His roster does not Lack for talent the way the tortorella teams did.

he’s a do less with more guy.

time to go

Can I like this more than once!!

in my opinion Johnson has been a net negative every single year he's been in the league.

getting rid of Johnson was just important to the Kings '12 cup run as getting Jeff Carter was.

he's an OFD that is dog shit stupid with the puck. he's big with absolutely no use being made of it. there's absolutely nothing he's good at and he's a f***ing idiot on top of it.

he's lucky CBJ forcefed him 25+ a game cause otherwise he'd be in the KHL

fun fact: no team with Johnson actively playing has ever won a playoff series.

So what exactly do coaches and management see? I'd understand if he was a tough guy but he's not.

I definitely feel like every time I post about Kreider now people are going to judge me with my "unfair harshness" haha. But Kreider looked good on the PK and was not one of the main problems.

I do agree he should have been traded even for someone like Jost and a first because by year three we are going to hate that contract. I don't see him ever scoring more than 25 goals in a season again not counting this year of course where 20 is a reasonable ask.

Appears the good news is he’s movable. The issue i had is we are rebuilding yet after watching both the playoffs and opening night i think a veteran like Kredier is must. We would be posting about missing Kreider had he been gone after the playoff performance and opening night. The roster is too young. Kredier is likely needed.

He is movable so i am better with the contract. The issue is the future big contract for Laf with the Kreider contract here. The future budget at this time last year likely had neither.

As someone said, benching the guy in game is enough, scratching him for the next game hurts the team. Complete overreaction.
If this wasn’t his first offense, I’d agree

He has a history and an example is being made. If he doesn’t want to sit than maybe he should shut up

JD and Martin have closer ties with Johnson than Staal. Relationships matter in every profession.

And the offenses of Johnson being terrible? Quinn is basically throwing a game to prove a point.
I hate to keep saying the same thing but Quinn and Martin think Johnson is good. They think he has value. It's pointless to question why they keep playing him. They've had 15 years of data and history to know why this jar head f*** is a terrible hockey player and 2/3 in this org vouched for him.

The Rangers from top to bottom love shit hockey players if they have muh character. That's just it. One of, if not the most, regressive and old school teams in the NHL in terms of personnel use and development.

Why does TDA need motivation beyond getting benched last game? He slammed the door? Why doesn't he motivate shit players like Jack Johnson?

I was more talking about Kakko in this regard. As for Tony, he was benched because he took a bad penalty due to poor positioning at the start of a period and then compiled it by getting mad at the ref for a penalty that was obvious. I'm sure they were trying to rally the troops between periods to have a better period and possibly mount a comeback or at the very least get something going to hang your hat on for tonight and something like that just flattens a team. He will sit for one game ,this isn't the first time and its worked before so you'll have to just trust the process. I feel he may be harder to keep in check this year now that he has his contract, he had to stay in line last year because he needed to play for his money.

But if you look at the D that they've been drafting it's very much in line with the new NHL. So it's not like they're completely clueless.

so should the NFL culture or NHL culture wise up? You can take a dumb penalty and celebrate yourself without being spoken to in the NFL yet heaven for bid you slam a door in the NHL.
