I definitely feel like every time I post about Kreider now people are going to judge me with my "unfair harshness" haha. But Kreider looked good on the PK and was not one of the main problems.

I do agree he should have been traded even for someone like Jost and a first because by year three we are going to hate that contract. I don't see him ever scoring more than 25 goals in a season again not counting this year of course where 20 is a reasonable ask.

Anyone else worried he'll ruin all of the careers of our promising prospects?

No. And here's my "logic" (haha). I've been saying since Nov 2019 when the team was struggling that he would get three years at most.

When the covid shortened season happened I was texting friends "David Quinn might be the luckiest man on earth because he'll have covid as an alibi for having a crappy season" HOWEVER by mid-February we will have a good idea of his fate.

I expect this team to get schooled tonight and if they lay eggs against the Sabres/Devil/Penguins in the next few mini series and gets off to an 0-6 or like 0-6-1 start, this man will be lucky to last the season and someone will be brought in soon enough into the careers of these players to work with their development.

This deangelo thing is going to be Quinn’s undoing

if Quinn believes that demoting tony (as a smoke screen for his failure to have his team ready to go) is the problem then he’s actually less intelligent than I first thought.

Tony’s politics my not be for everyone. His social media positions are polarizing. He’s mouthy and opinionated. He’s from jersey. For me, he’s AOK and IMO, this stuff has exactly zero to do with his ability to score points and create offense for this team . I’ve waited years for a talent like him to run the pp and score points from the blue line and now that he’s here- and um....doing just that, the fact that he’s an active social media user matters zilch to me. Zippo.

His past behavior and history everyone refers to is in the past. He’s not a homophobe because he used that slur in juniors any more than anyone is a whatever because they said something when they were 18 yrs of age. Words dont define a person behaviors do and his behavior relative to that matter has been fine since he’s been a NYR. by all accounts he’s very popular in the locker room and that’s per David Quinn btw.

To bring his past up now LARRY, is nothing more than gaslighting and selling clicks and more importantly stoking the agenda fires to please your media darling buddies who all hate deangelo. If you dont believe me read some of the crap being written now which is mostly about his intolerance and unWOKEness being strewn by the progressive media. He’s disliked for who he is. Period. Who does that sound like .. ? Yup.

what’s next benching tony because he hurt someone’s feelings or is too intolerant. Must he be more sensitive? Good lord. Mark messier wasn’t an angel nor a choir boy. Yeesh.

his play against the piles was poor. His pp didn’t score. He was standing around a lot and not creating space and time for himself or his shooters. His 5 v 5 ply was poor. He let barzal have too much space and use him for the screen in that snipe goal. He was running around a lot he was losing assignments.

yet we are to believe he’s the problem and his demotion will help the team win? Because that’s the goal right Dave, win games ? Or is it to teach lessons like a dad or a nun in grade school. Play your best players isn’t a new concept. Who’s better than deangelo . Brendan effing smith ? Really Dave.

We scored ZERO goals last game and he’s your PP1 QB.

shouldn’t Miller come out . he looked totally unprepared. Jack Johnson ? I mean he has a total of 1 game as a NYR. Nope. Deangelo is the one to be admonished and “demoted” while Larry’s opines about waivers.

The guy who scored more than any NYR D man in, well.....forever.

really.

I keep hearing it’s only 1 games and COVID and blah blah blah. It’s early. It’s fine. Everyone else has an excuse for poor play.

Except tony deangelo

slamming the door was such an egregious selfish act he must be censured. Example time because panarin or laf13 might think that’s ok and they themselves may do such a thing.... Um, really ? Are we 10 yr olds here.

he got 1 game and “played bad” so he’s out. He’s got special rules that apply, uh huh...

so this isn’t about slammimg a door in a game that was over already. We were toast. We weren’t winning that game. He wasn’t happy and good for him being miserable about getting schooled by the piles. He showed emotion. That’s bad ? This isn’t about taking a selfish penalty in a tie game and costing the team. This isn’t about last year behavior ( which was exemplary) this isn’t about improving the roster with an addition by subtraction theory, and this isn’t about making the team better.

It’s a personal thing with Quinn and when it gets personal, you’ve lost your moral high ground. Your decisions are
clouded by emotion.

time to go Dave. Back to college where they found you and where you belong.

where they teach lessons and nurture kids. We need a professional nhl coach to lead this team. Not a daddy.

I think a lot of coaches to some degree have their favorites and stuff like that but DQ does seem to pick & choose A LOT. These dudes are professional players on the highest stage there is, not student athletes.

I am wondering a bit if there is a discussion between JD, Gorts and Quinn about Kakko. Kakko could be a star and probably will have longer tenure as a Ranger than Quinn. What if we get another Lias Andersson situation and Kakko says "F this, trade me!".

No. And here's my "logic" (haha). I've been saying since Nov 2019 when the team was struggling that he would get three years at most.

Let's see how the next few games go. This reminds me of the Richards situation before Torts was brought in CLB. I think the team still has some of the Ruff edges on how they defend, Valley was talking about the 1-knee drop to defend a net front pass, and he's totally right. Teams know that the Rangers are coached to do that, and they've been breaking down that play since Kevin Klein played. You release off of your check, you create an opening. Let him make the pass, but take the option away. It's a more efficient way of playing. That's just one example.

Shortening your bench to reward guys who showed up that night. Double shifting players to get a mismatch. Matching lines against the other team instead of rolling out the next one. Knowing how to use the 4th line. Getting more out of your young players instead of them going out there and floating for 6 months in a row. I get that a too many men penalty can be had during a bench change and the puck goes into area and hits a guy getting on the ice... that happens... but the TMM's from the last three years are not all like that. That's just undisciplined. A guy getting pissed after an embarrassment of an effort, I don't think that's as problematic. The media will run with what gives them clicks so I'm less concerned about the optics. I'm more concerned about results.

It doesn't matter what business you are in, a good manager cares about the output, they care about the results. Not what people think about how they get there. Again it doesn't matter what the business is, but if you have a bunch of employees who show signs of low effort and show up expecting a full ride on their paycheck, you have an entitlement problem. I don't care how entitled these guys are off the ice. Hell I'd encourage it, they're tier 1 earners- make the most of it boys. But on the ice, on the job, you show the f*** up or you sit your ass out. That's on the coach.

It's a league wide issue with young "stars" coming out of Sweden and Finland lately. I won't get into the details but other teams have gone through the same thing, several times over, and not just with top picks. It's called entitlement. You see it with the guys who went pro as teenagers and had success. They're rich kids at 16-17 getting pro dollars, so things have come easier to them. The way teams draft players now are changing because of this. You are dealing with boys who have yet to become men, and they've gotten paid because they were the chosen one. I think you have to find a way to help them understand what it takes to be a pro instead of waiting for them to get it after a talk.

Last year was Kakko's rookie year, but his advanced analytics outside of goals and points read similarly to other star players in the NHL, except he put up 20 points. That's why you had an uproar from the stats crowd about how bad his season was, and why he wasn't ready. He played like a player who was a star, but put up low-end totals. That shouldn't happen two years in a row. I think it's also incumbent upon the team's leadership group to say, hey dude this is what you need to do to help us be better. Patty Kane puts up 80+, you're not doing that, we need you to stop floating and use your strides, skate towards the guy the with the puck, get it off of him, and make a play. Now do that again, and again, and again. Every single shift. If you don't then get off the line, because we would rather play with x.

Wouldn't be the first time with a recent Finnish 2nd overall pick. The other guy got a longer leash because he racks up the goals. Still asking to play with the top dawgs on that team, but at least he scores goals.

You are correct but the problem is that in games where everybody plays like garbage Kakko gets the boot. Quinn obviously plays favorites, Howden, Johnson

I’m really surprised people are up in arms about Quinn benching Tony over the penalty stuff

Tony consistently mouths off to the refs and has gotten penalized for it before. Quinn has had to sit Tony before for this exact reason. He clearly dosen’t respond to just a stern talking to, so they put him in timeout for a game

It’s not any different than dealing with a child lol

I’m not a fan of Quinn but this is hardly anything to get upset about considering the circumstances.

Would I like Quinn to bench Strome for a game when he consistently takes penalties, absolutely. But Strome also doesn’t have a history of berating referees haha

If this guy ruins a number 2 overall pick I hope the Rangers blackball him for the rest of his career. I’m tired of this shit. If Kakko doesn’t go out and immediately score a hat trick on a shift then what he gets demoted? f*** this guy seriously. Kinda hope we go on a real bad stretch here and he gets the axe. Put anyone else behind the bench for this year who gives a shit.

I'm okay with Kappo getting benched. He needs it, but I understand your point, and that's not good management. To play favorites, you end up having guys think less of you as a manager. Also another thing that happens in all other businesses. But yeah I think the number of learning experiences that are coming up have similarities with what other teams have gone through as well as other organizations in different professions and it's noticeable. Mistakes are going to happen with a young team, we can all live with that.

Effort. Competency. Accountability. That's what we want to see drive the culture forward.

How does he need it?

If we're going for accountability and he REALLY wants to make a statement, Panarin should be scratched.

  • Do you know what a forecheck is?
  • How about a backcheck?
  • What about pinning a guy on the board?
  • How about engaging in a puck battle?
  • What about creating a foot race to try and win the puck?
  • How about coordinating with a team's cycle?
  • How about moving your feet to get open to create an easier passing lane for your teammate?
  • What about hustling after a loose puck?
  • What about skating harder to cover for your teammate?
  • What about trying to create a turnover?
  • What about dropping back to the point when your D jumps into the play?
It's all the little things that show who is a competitor versus not. That's how he needs it. It's called earning your keep. It's called playing a complete game, and doing the little things to help your team win.

Okay but how many of these things were an issue on THURSDAY???

He's getting demoted right now because the coach has hit the panic button already.

As someone said, benching the guy in game is enough, scratching him for the next game hurts the team. Complete overreaction.

Re: Tony and DQ-

Only good thing here is that I remember Tony responding very well after a benching by DQ.

it blows and was unwarranted. Everybody played like absolute dog shit.

My patience is almost completely gone with how hes handled the ice time of the kids the last year +. Its absolutely infuriating its almost turning into an adam gase situation where he would rather lose with the corpse of a talentless vet getting all the minutes

The kids ice time was not a problem last year in any way.

Anyone who has been part of any competitive or high level team knows that the coaches best motivational tool is ice time and creating competition from within. Its when players feel they are locked into a spot that they get too comfortable cheating the game. Now a line in the sand is drawn and everyome knows they have to play to the coaches expectations to earn their ice, i have 0 problem with it. If they play bad tonight it will get worse so get used to it. If it continues for a few more games we will have to look at the coach, as of right now its on the players.

Why does TDA need motivation beyond getting benched last game? He slammed the door? Why doesn't he motivate shit players like Jack Johnson?
