If these numbers end up being accurate, I don't understand what the hold up was. I also don't get where all the nonsense that Barry and Pasta were being unreasonable came from? $6.66 is a very reasonable number and nowhere close to the 8.5 we kept hearing Pasta's camp was insisting on. I wish they had locked him up for 8 years, but I get why he and Barry probably wanted it shorter. At least it's not a 2 year bridge deal.

Number of the beast!

Trade him, he is evil!

Why did it take to so long to get to that number? I'd have paid more to have him here already.

Regardless that's a good contract. Good on Sweeney and the Bruins.

What a fantastic deal. I have to eat my words on this one, playing hardball actually worked.

I don't think Berry was ever asking for $8.5, he's smarter than that.

Really makes the Draisaitl look absolutely terrible now.

Lebrun tweeted that Pasta's asking price started with an 8... The league should be appreciative of the Bruins correcting the market.

Sweeney also deserves some serious credit here. Especially with our track record, it must have been a lot of pressure, but he did very well. Used the leverage he had perfectly. I think he knew that as soon as campus started and the guys started getting together, Pasta would get antsy. It's an agent's job to get the most money possible for their client, but Pasta loves hockey, loves Boston, and is loved by the team. Someone said a few days ago that he was probably kicking himself seeing all the players at the golf tournament and I think that was spot on. He's probably already halfway to Boston. :)

just heard from my inside source (same one as Eklund/Murphy have), says that Berry and Sweeney had lengthy discussions about simply dragging this out to the last minute as they were getting a kick out of the posts on Hf and thought if they kept this going, the two of them had a chance to be the first to break the internet, my sources are never wrong:sarcasm:

Barry may be an ass to us but he's doing his job. Having Pastrnak stay in Europe is a wise choice.

It's a game of cat and mouse now

If the bonus money is that important to Barry the a 3 year deal is only solution

Jeremy Jacobs paying guaranteed lockout money would be a shocker and Barry knows this.

If bonus money isn't an issue I expect long term deal

If it's a deal breaker either side they will go short

I agree that more than likely it's about bonus money/lockout protection which is a concern on a number of levels.

Jacobs will resist that because it goes against his DNA on this issue (CBA, labor negotiations, League history of lockouts, his important role in all of above, his believe that system is out of whack, etc., etc, etc.)

On the other hand, Barry is probably saying "Jacobs will be the driver of the next lockout and I fully expect there to be a lockout. If that happens, the guy who is signing a contract with you is going to be the one that drives the League shutting down for a season and you not getting paid. All we're trying to do is not let him do that. Sign a contract and honor the contract -- organizing a lockout is not honoring the contract you earned and deserve."

I don't like either man, but I could argue either side's point pretty easily......

Would of rather they gave him more AAV to get the 8-years. UFA at age 27.

Can't complain about the overall cap hit, will still be a steal in the long-term.

Consider this, him and Tarasenko will be UFA's at the same time (2023) and if their production is similar over that 6-year timeframe, as it was coming out of their respective ELCs, Bruins are getting great value.

Very glad this is over.

Bring on the season.

It sounds like Sweeney held tight on those $6 million offers. Really impressive management. It's gonna be interesting to see how it's structured, but good on Sweeney for sticking to his guns.

Bergeron - 6.875 - 5-years remaining

Pastrnak - 6.667 - 6-years remaining

Marchand - 6.125 - 8-years remaining

19.667 for this forward trio.

In a cap system that's as good of a value trio as you will find.

Seeing what they ultimately agreed on and the inferring what the sides must have been asking for beforehand is quiet the intellectual leap. Them agreeing to 6.66 doesn't confirm one way or another if they ever asked for 8.5 in the context of an 8 year deal.

The point I was making is that all the noise and stories about how Sweeney wouldn't budge off of their first offer, and how Pasta was asking for the moon turned out to be nothing more than summertime space filler in the papers. I don't think any of the experts came close to calling this at all.

Wait, has anyone checked in with Marchand? He's got to be super pissed right now, given Pasta is making more than him...:naughty:
