Please discuss Kämpf.

Also did he sustain a serious injury last night?

I saw him go down hard, but I didn't watch the full game.

Did he return?

He has been just terrific. Excellent addition. Plus with him here, Kaše also agreed.

Does anyone remember Jay McClement? Not that Kämpf and McClement are the same player, but I do love having a Center who is a defensive specialist. So far Kämpf has been solid. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

The question being, what did he injure? It was a clip to the head, so is he out with Concussion protocol? At first, it looked like he'd injured his arm, from the way he fell... in either case, he's an important part of the team, so hopefully he has a speedy recovery, or is fine.
 
My question is:

Why is this not a suspension? Leaf player got blind-sided and the Kings player got NOTHING BUT HEAD with the hit. 100% head shot. I don't get it!

Player safety would have to review, and then hold some type of hearing. At this point, we've heard nothing from Player Safety, but that doesn't mean we won't. (although, it doesn't seem likely)

Honestly, it looked completely accidental, though unfortunate.

He was clutching his arm while he was down. I thought it was a shoulder or elbow injury.
 
I initially thought it was an arm injury. However, the replay suggested a hit to the head. Worst case ontario, it's both. The landing may have caused the arm injury.

Fingers crossed it was precautionary to keep him out for the rest of the game.
 
@zeke How would you know that it's clearly head-related?

He went down hard on his left side, and was favouring his left arm or shoulder on his way off the ice. It looks to me like it was probably an arm or shoulder issue – perhaps even a dislocated shoulder.

I'm a bit surprised that there is no news whatsoever as to what the nature of the injury is.
 
I think David Kampf is a very important player for the Leafs.

I only watched the first period of the game last night due to the late hour. I don't know how they played after the first intermission, but it looks like they had everything sorted out.

After Kampf went down, they had trouble clearing the zone until the intermission.

I think the Leafs recent success is due in large part to having a reliable third line that can take defensive-zone face-offs, and fairly effectively clear the zone and establish the play in the other end of the ice. Without that, they tend to fumble around in their own end, creating scoring opportunities for the other team that doesn't really help them.

I also noticed that Kase and Kampf, and a random left-winger, often come on after a dry power-play to settle things down in the right end of the ice.

They sort of keep the ship steady and set things up for the top two lines.

You seem gullible to me.

Lets go with that for a second. If by chance you are right. Why is that different than accidentally catching a guy in the head with your stick? You still need to be responsible for your stick!

Why not blind-siding an unsuspecting player?

Sheesh alright. I looked at it a few times, just seemed like 2 players that were curling and one got caught in the head. There was a penalty on the play.

Not every high stick is the same. If a guy swings his stick at your face like a baseball bat, that's also a suspension but a regular high stick call (the accidental kind) isn't. Intent matters for suspensions sometimes? It's a fast sport.

A hit to the head isn’t always illegal. Kampf was leading with his head and skated into the lane of another player skating by. Honestly shouldn’t have even been a penalty.

Don Koharski called it an illegal hit to the head on TNT and it will likely be reviewed. The actual call on the ice, tripping, was ridiculous.

So? I don’t even know who that is, but the TV personalities more and more know less than the average fan

Edit: Retired ref, so I guess he has some merit. Still don’t think it was all that illegal
