Aren’t the Jets first in the league? Chevy has a fantastic job.I trust Waddell over Chevy in terms of building a contender.

Let's put it this way, there's a much higher chance Wallinder never hits 50 games or 10 points than there is of him surpassing Jiricek's prime. As a Detroit fan, isn’t there a huge chance at this point that wallinder ends up better than jiricek? Not sure if I’d be okay with a trade like that. Jiricek will be getting traded off of potential and old hype, rather than what he’s shown. It’s a tough trade for many because he is good but his refusal to go down to the AHL consistently and struggling with weight gain are glaring issues.
Zegras has proven he's a one-dimensional player failing at that dimension. He can't even put up over .5ppg in a high scoring era. Jiricek potential ceiling is still higher and his value has not dropped below Zegras and his heavy price tag.Or Juricek continues to drop in value and a Zegras offer would be beyond what he could return? Zegras has proven what he can do in the league. Juricek hasn’t.
The only counter I'd have to this is that big, mobile RD that can score are one of the most valuable packages in hockey, right after a #1C, and goalies are one of the least valuable positions. And while Jiricek hasn't been ready for the NHL, he has been productive in the AHL. Can't you see Minnesota trading their #1 (probably in the low to mid 20s) and IDK.... Carson Lambos for Jiricek? The structure of the Askarov trade sets a precedent for what it takes to get a former top pick who "wants a fresh start", but I don't see how Jiricek has the value Askarov did. Askarov is the best prospect in the world at his position, was on the cusp of NHL time (and has showed in his two games with the Sharks so far that he's absolutely NHL-ready), and was only even available because of the Saros extension. If Columbus came to me asking for Askarov in exchange for Jiricek, I'd hang up the phone.
What's interesting is that another poster said how much more valuable Askarov is. Besides, I said the Askarov trade was the framework of a trade- 1st + prospect. Considering theyeboth were disgruntled high picks, it's a pretty apt comp. What do you think Columbus will get for Jiricek?Comparing a potential defenseman trade to a goalie trade is hilarious. Has goalie value ever been lower in hockey?
Honestly? We're gonna disagree off the bat because I don't feel hes disgruntled. He's currently killing it in the A. Just turned 21 yesterday, he's doing great. Maybe he isnt disgruntled but open to a fresh start. That's fine, but we're in no rush to make a deal there. What's interesting is that another poster said how much more valuable Askarov is. Imo Juricek is worth, in draft capital, a pick in the 20-32 range. Same goes for Zegras. So imo it’s a fair swap. I’d include Shane Wright in that group too.At this point you are lucky if you get a 2nd round pick for him.
Trivia question: who was drafted #3 overall in 2023?Keep the 20+ yr tradition in CBJ alive of never having had a no.1 center
Wasn’t there a lot of rumours at the draft that Montreal had a tentative deal for Zegras for 21 + Mailloux but killed it when they saw Hage was still on the board?Imo Juricek is worth, in draft capital, a pick in the 20-32 range. I am not sold on Zegras just because we have Kent Johnson right now but I wouldn't mind taking a swing on Shane Wright 1 for 1 but Seattle hasn't been linked in the discussion. Columbus holds the cards right now so they wont trigger just to get rid of Jiricek. If anything with all this "news" I wouldn't doubt is coming from Walsh's camp to try to force Waddell to make a deal now and its not working.Imo Juricek is worth, in draft capital, a pick in the 20-32 range. The value of the player is at its highest right now. If he’s not playing in the National League then his value will gradually drop. Maybe he should be in the NHL and play a top four role right now? His value would be significantly more if he proved himself as a legitimate nhl top four d man.I am not sold on Zegras just because we have Kent Johnson right now but I wouldn't mind taking a swing on Shane Wright 1 for 1 but Seattle hasn't been linked in the discussion. You are entitled to your opinion but no one dimensional .5 point per game player is getting a 1st round pick.Imo Juricek is worth, in draft capital, a pick in the 20-32 range. Same goes for Zegras. So imo it’s a fair swap. I’d include Shane Wright in that group too.
Not if he's not ready for it. Plus minutes are earned not given. The value of the player is at its highest right now. If he’s not playing in the National League then his value will gradually drop.
