Darryl Sutter appreciation thread?
DARRYL SUTTER APPRECIATION THREAD!

Love this man and everything he did for this team. Turned a defense-only club that looked scared to be on the ice some nights into a ****ing juggernaut that just threw everyone into the wood chipper Fargo style. Then, went back at it with a wounded club in 2013, losing only to the 'other' juggernaut team of the time, before finally slaying that dragon in the most epic fashion in the 2014 playoffs.

Wish the 2015 team had it in them for a few last victories, because Sutter had everyone terrified of this team. Unfortunately, every coach has a shelf life, and he went out the third-longest-tenured coach in the league currently behind only Q and Tippett and the winningest coach in Kings history.

Thank you forever, Sutter. If he wants to coach somewhere else, he will and should.

I was one of the few who was on board with a Sutter hire, but much like Andy Murray, his shelf life just expired. Didnt help that our core who helped the Kings win in 12 and 14 are now much older. Still a good coach, and if he wants to coach, he'll have a place to do so in this league. Thanks for all the memories Sutter, it was a blast.

Can say he didn't adapt but he didn't have the horses to play his system either. Can also argue that he had the horses but he rides them into the ground.

What a ride before they got worn out though.

The best moment for me during 2012-14 where I was able to step back a second and appreciate what was going on was during the Rangers series. Even though the Kings were about to put the finishing touches on a 2nd Cup, I'm still a Kings fan afraid of the worse possible outcome occurring.

After Game 3 when the Kings went up 3-0, someone asked Sutter "How it felt playing with the lead" since they hadn't had a lead until the OT GWG for at least the previous three games, dating back to Game 7 in Chicago.

Sutter's reply:

"We're used to it"

Even though they won in 2012, the way the Kings coach basically said "We win a lot" was ****ing awesome. Yeah...they are used to it. Everyone could put the "fluke" BS away in regards to 2012 and face facts that this was a great team.

Love the guy for what he did for this franchise. There are several guys on this team right now that are happy he isn't here anymore, but they are probably going to look back on their careers and say he was the best coach they ever had.

The weekend of July 30-31st 2005 and December 17th 2011. IMO the two biggest reasons the Kings have banners in the rafters.

The Kings had not drafted what would be considered a franchise player or superstar player since Blake in 1988 and on that weekend they grabbed 2 of them.

And then when Sutter was hired, the Kings had a good roster but were on the way to missing the playoffs and likely significant changes that summer. Sutter came in and everything changed.

He absolutely had a shelf life, and he overstayed his welcome by a year, but I think people forget how bad things were going before he took over.

Thanks, Darryl, for putting this team over the hump and giving us 3 years of greatness that those who witnessed it will never forget. You helped make the Kings one of the most feared playoff teams in the league, and earned the Kings the begrudging respect of rival fanbases in the process.

You know you will have multiple offers available to you if you want them, but good luck all the same if you want to go back to your ranch and spend more time with your family.

He was the right coach to the right time and pushed these guys to their limits for three consecutive seasons.

I believe his tenure here ended up being his longest stay as a head coach. As crappy as the past three seasons have been, he should be proud of what he accomplished here.

No question he was what we needed. I'm sure he can find another job easily if he wanted one. I am going to miss Chris at Kings games more than anything in the future.

He is an incredible coach and will be a legend in Kings history once he officially retires. I also believe that even in the current era, his system is superior to other systems in the league. The only problem with his system is that it works for a few years with the same roster. The players just get burned out after a while.

I think if Winnipeg hired him, he would immediately make them a playoff team and scary in the playoffs.

best coach this club has ever had, dude is a legend in his own right. gonna miss his dry sense of humor

Couldn't have said it any better. No one wanted to play the Kings. Chances were the Kings were going to beat you. ONE team beat the Kings from 2012-2014. ONE!!!! He devised that game plan in 2014 to beat Chicago at their own game. No one had been able to do that. Kings were the only team in that three year period (2013-2015) to beat Chicago and Sutter was the mastermind behind it all. It's unfortunate in 2013 the Kings were so incredibly banged up they couldn't give Chicago a real run for their money.

Even in 2015 everyone knew that even if you beat the Kings, the Kings would have banged you up so badly that you wouldn't even be able to make a sustained run in the playoffs. It's too bad that ****ing idiot had to do what he did and get himself arrested. This team could have been a juggernaut for at least a couple more seasons at least.

It's too bad he didn't walk away after 2016 and gotten the hero treatment as he left. Unfortunate that he stayed a year too long when the players and fans all turned on him. 5 years from now, maybe 10 he'll be back at Staples for a Legends night and by that time the players and fans will realize what a legend this man truly is. Darryl Sutter is responsible for the greatest era in Kings history.

Wow, that was some interview Darryl did with the Mayor John Hoven. Respect. Peace, Coach Sutter and family. Thank you for the glory days.
