I honestly think the Oilers need to pay the price to move out some bad cap this offseason. If I'm Draisaitl and see 3 more years of Campbell money and 6 more years of Nurse money and that stays the same I'm not signing. Buyout Campbell and move the 2 1st round picks it'll take to dump Nurse. I predict they will buyout Campbell, but keep Nurse.

Nurse is terrible but he's not to blame for Edmonton scoring 1.33 goals per game. Drai has zero points.
Oilers defence has cost them some big goals this series. You can win games 2-1 & 3-2 you know.Sometimes the pts will not come so you have to play sound hockey as a group.More then once Oilers D men could have been 1st to pucks and let Florida get there instead & pucks got centred and landed in net.

Looks like Paul Coffey's ability to coach him was overrated....
Paul was not exactly considered a defensive defenseman.

Guy needs a guy like Mattias Nordstrom to teach him working the boards and using that big frame.

Nurse probably needs a change of scenery. His contract won't allow that change to be easy. But guys confidence is shot.

The only reason I would guess if Edmonton would consider a buyout is if they think of it as a 2 year window and then lets feel the pain.
I mean.. they pretty much have a 2 year window because that's the length of McDavid's contract

We are looking at this from the Oilers perspective. How his cap doesn't match his play at all. He's a direct liability. Although he does make 9 million per year, I thing it's going to get real bad for Nurse too. To the point of getting booed whenever he touches the puck. Ripped on all social media ououtlets. Can't go out in public.

In a hockey first market, it's tough for him to escape criticism. The only solution for next year is to get more D and shelter him more. But at some point, it may get so bad that he is healthy scratched.

There is one solution they really need to consider. That is trading Draisaitl this summer. It's one way to get depth and a possible goalie added. They aren't worse off with one top 5 player and alot of depth vs two top five players and no depth imo.

If McDavid wants to win a cup, he needs to realize status quo isn't good enough. He may not have his buddies around. But the team could massively improve & increase the odds at a cup.

I don't even think trading Drai would do much. It only frees up $8.5m in cap space and the haul he'd get in return 1 year away from UFA won't be anywhere near what Oilers fans would expect.

If the only concern is next season, which it should be as Drai and McD would be stupid to re-sign, the best move is keeping Drai and trying to load up. Buyout both Nurse and Campbell, try to convince some UFAs to sign 1-2 year contracts for a shot at the cup. Deal with the consequences after McDavid leaves.

Next season, McDrai as a duo are only like the 3rd highest capped hit combo at $21 mill, behind Toronto and Colorado's top duo. Most of the other top duos are in the $19 - $20 mill range like with FLA, TB, NYR, DAL, etc. So, they get really the most bang for their buck.

But, they've overpaid for others. $1.9 in buyout for Neal, $3.2 mill for Brown's bonuses, $200K for Perry's bonuses, Nurse at $9.25 mill and Campbell at $5 mill That is almost $20 mill right there, nearly equal to what they take on McDrai.

Hockey is the ultimate team game especially on defense do you see McDavid making defensive plays like Barkov?

I thought he had a chance to be very good once he matured a bit, but unfortunately I was wrong. If anything, he has regressed. Six more years at that cap hit... it's going to get ugly. The guy needs to play with a good defensive Dman... doesn't have to be big, or even fast, as Nurse can provide the physicality and speed, but someone who is smart, positionally sound, and can cover for his mistakes.

It's weird no one wants to pay much for them, but defensive Dmen(not pylons) with a good first pass seem to be in short supply. Can EDM afford to sign a slowing Pesce during the off season? Would that even be a wise move?

Bouchard is a boat anchor too. Just wait until some team signs him for 10M a year for a PP specialist.
