Now let me make it clear this doesn't come from any insiders this is my speculation.

Darcy Kuemper is now injured for the 2nd time this playoffs, last time he didn't miss a game but this time he missed game 2 and Pavel Francouz came in and shut out the Oilers.

Now I don't know Kuemper's status for game 3 but if he can't go and Francouz plays well again. or even just wins game 3does he get the ball going forward? and if he does, will that impact Kuemper's status with the team? will the Avs be more inclined to take the money they were going to give to Kuemper and give it to Kadri who will probably be playoff MVP if the Avs win the cup.

Does Francouz become the Avs #1 next season?

or do they look for a guy that can challenge him like a Blackwood out of NJ? or perhaps a guy like Fluery will might be willing to go to Colorado cheap given the talent they have.

I also wonder how much if at all Kuemper's value on the market will be impacted although I don't see impacted much if at all, teams like Toronto, Edmonton, NJ, maybe Minny if they lose Fluery are all likely to make an offer

The only reason COL won't re-sign him is because they plan on signing either Husso or Campbell instead because they prefer those players.

And if anything, the fact that Keumper got injured again and has only been average in this playoffs, means that he'll be more affordable for them to re-sign.

They're not going into next season, when they'll be looking to win a Cup (perhaps for a second consecutive year) with Francouz as their only semi-proven NHL goalie. They're a top tier team and they'll have a legit starting G.

If colorado even delays in the slightest in deciding, I feel like toronto will have solid offer ready the second free agency opens up.

I think they target John Gibson but if they don't land him then I agree they will have a big offer ready to go

Sakic can go ahead and keep wasting assets playing musical chairs with goalies every year. That’s not even the slightest bit annoying

Not that this necessarily matters. But there have been zero talks with Toronto and campbell

So he will be ufa. Colorado is the top FA destination so I’m sure Campbell will be interested

I still expect Darcy to be back. But we'll also have to see how severe that injury is, if doctors think that injury is reoccuring, might have to look else where.

Gibson is not the answer. Too pricey to acquire and pay plus he's been below league average on every measure for the past 3 seasons. Quite pushing this BS narrative.

It's in doubt, but only in the sense that his future in Denver was never assured. He's a middling goalie who had one year to UFA status left on his contract. There was always a better-than-average chance that Colorado would look elsewhere this summer.

I think Kuemper ends up on the market, but I think it would be a huge mistake for any team to give him $5 million per year. It would be a Grubauer mistake that the Kraken made. If Kuemper wants $5 million from a team, then his term should be no more than 2 years. The same goes for Campbell, but he shouldn't be getting more than $4 million per on a 2 year deal. Neither goalie is durable enough to be long term #1 goalies, as both goalies have injury histories. Both the Avs and Leafs should move on from both goalies.

Wasnt there talk of them looking to add G at the deadline? Does not take much to assume not much has changed

I don’t see how anyone can hold a freak accident like taking a stick through the mask and into the eye against him.

Hell, even the concussion from a puck to the helmet is more “freak accident” than injury prone.

he's been hurt twice also concussions aren't good in general for a goalie they are even worse getting hit in the head kind of comes with being a goalie

Don't know which goalie they can get. DeSmith might be a good option, or maybe Fleury, but either way it'd be nice for Pittsburgh to bring Fleury back and DeSmith to get a full-time starting job somewhere.

If Kuemper wants to stay in Colorado he needs to take a discount.
