Yeah, it seems like with the 1 year extension that the Preds aren't looking to move him.

There is some horde of Nashville fans who have been down on him this year, but I'm not sure that correlates to anything but Hynes seeming to not like him.

Fabbro is still a good young D and the Preds shouldn't undersell on him in a down year that may be tied to an outgoing coach. They seem to have acknowledged this with the 1-year extension. Both sides being ready to just push reset and revisit things next season is a solid compromise.

Plus the Preds D is looking pretty thin... not just atm, but also extrapolated to next season. We don't have prospects on D who are likely to step up, plus we haven't been at all impressed with Cal Foote so far, he does not look like any kind of answer. The newly acquired Tyson Barrie is likely moved at next year's Deadline. So there is a need to retain Fabbro. To the extent that if he was traded, it would almost need to be for a similar player - a youngish RD. In which case, why trade?

Is he a guy Nashville would be willing to flip for more futures?

If so, what would the cost look like?
No.

As beardawg mentions there is some division on him...for whatever reason other Preds sites and the Twitterverse seem to really have something against him for reasons that are not all that apparent to the rest of us. He has been misused this year after having a very solid season next to Josi all last year. We also have very little experienced/quality depth at RHD and the other mainstay (Carrier) seems to be rather injury-prone.

Fabbro is one of the most weirdly overrated players in the league - an overpaid, OK-ish #5-6 defender living off WJC performances from 2017 and 2018.

It's absolutely bizarre how he's still talked about as some sort of quality asset carrying significant value.

He’s already signed. It isn’t an RFA QO situation.
That still affects his value because of arbitration. Manyteams looking at him will say he’s a trial for one year. If he doesn’t prove himself, he doesn’t get QO His value is not going to be as good. Nobody is giving up much for a player like him.

if traded, it amounts to equivalent players Being traded for each other.

I agree and likely the case. I don’t think his value is any better if he’s signed long term tbh. In fact teams may rather treat him as a trial with little loss if he flakes.

It's kind of silly to be talking about his "value" right now. Preds aren't trading him. He's signed. Let's see where things stand next year. That decision was already made by Nashville management. So folks can think he's good or not good or be scared about his QO or abitration next year or whatever... but none of it matters until we see if he gets back on track next season. What he does next season is going to determine whether his QO or arbitration are at all worth worrying about.

I would say he has been our best RD overall in Nashville since Subban imploded. That may not be saying very much, but still, at ages 21-24 to even be in the conversation as best RD on any NHL team, even with one subpar season in the mix with that, isn't all bad. And that's precisely why the Preds have afforded him the additional trial time next season. He was a perfectly valid top-pair partner for Josi all last season, and there's no reason for us not to hope that he'll be back to that next season once John Hynes is out of the way.

Fabbro's only issue is the guy behind the bench named Hynes who for some reason decided to demote him after helping his partner have the best offensive season by a Dman in 30 years. Hynes has literally fought tooth and nail to keep him away from Josi, which is reason #3435 Hynes should have been fired mid season.
