Daniel Sprong undresses Jared Tinordi and makes a sick deke to tie the game with 15.1 seconds left in regulation

Hey, I know it's the preseason, but 4 D dropped the ball on this goal. It looked like a successful running play in football where they create a gap in the line - and he kind of did. Sprong faked out both the first D that was supposed to contain him and caused him and the others momentum to go the wrong way then Cooper to commit to a shot on the left leaving his right wide open.

It was a very pretty goal, but he really only undressed Jared Tinordi which by the looks of things isn't all that hard to do.
It looks like Tinordi realized - or thought - he was out of position and rushed to fill the gap and created a gap by doing so (while causing the others to skate the wrong direction to avoid him)

Yeah... Title is completely misleading. Nice goal though.
Did you change the title? It looks rather interesting on mobile :sarcasm:

Better title “Spong dekes around one guy while three others watch”
yes, more accurate. though I think Tinordi's momentum caused part of that.
Looks like Lekkermaki was in the right position too and by that he has to be checked allowing Sprong his freedom.
You see Sprong had to stop the puck with his glove instead of his stick - the ice was really, really bad and everyone knew it at that point. Had Sprong not used his glove it might have bounced right past him.

I know Sprong has his flaws but I never quite understood why he never got any traction on any of his more recent teams, or at least got a multi-year deal. He's been getting constant 1 year, $900k or so deals despite putting up pretty good numbers.
Having had him on my team last year I totally understand it. He has great offensive ability but might be one of the worst defensive players I have seen in my life. He also has a bad penchant for high risk plays that yes give him good numbers but put his team in high stakes transition disadvantages when he does turn it over. He forces a lot of plays, then controller disconnects a decent amount.

He seems to take poorly caculated risks with a high percentage for a bad turnover.

From what I'm reading he's Kuzmenko part 2. Tocchet managed to turn around Miller but he could never get through to Kuz. Hopefully he can reach Sprong.
Sprong took a 50% cut on his paycheque as a UFA because no one wanted him for months. I have to think the fear of God will cause him to turn around. We'll see.
So far in this preseason the Canucks defense has been atrocious.
