Looking at Habs top-6 for next year, I believe it could look like this :

Slafkovský - Suzuki - Caufield
Demidov - X - Laine (or Dach...)

I think you need a veteran presence at 2C who can put on some points, but also win faceoffs and play a responsible game to let Demidov and Laine concentrate on offense. The more I look at it, the more Danault comes to mind.

Is he available, and how would it cost to bring our prodigal son back, Kings fans? ... Is he still good at hockey? Thank you! :)

Absolutely not. There are much better options available that we could go after, and I'm saying that not actually knowing what's available, yet it's still possible to know that there are better options than re-acquiring Danault.

We already have Armia and Evans, no need
Evans can easily fit the bottom line. Danault, for the next two years, could fit as a temporary replacement while a prospect like Michael Hage or a better option for longer term appears.
Giving a first pick in a weaker draft + a prospect is ok for me for the direction the team is currently taking.
... Although, the question we can ask ourselves is, really, the 1st obtained in the Monahan deal for a maybe less efficient player that would cost more (although less injuries)? Maybe not the best asset management.

And this point he is a third line center with some extra bonuses like great in the dot, on the PK, leadership etc.

Had a very slow start. His BFF winger Moore looked like he was playing injured fir the first 40.

Lately Moore look s better, Foegele joined the line and Danny started scoring and his overall play looks way better

In LA we are witnessing Byfield taking over the team and finally surpassing Kopitar.

Going into next year our centers look to be:

Byfield
Kopitar
Danault
Helenius - massive 6’6 rookie that hits, fights and has some skill.

Danault will start as third line center and most likely loose his spot in PP2

Saying that he provides everything that the kings are looking for in a player and seems to fit in the room. Dount they trade them?

However, if it was up to me, Kopitar has one year left and would be an elite third line center. I would move Danault and his best friend Moore to save close to 10 million in cap space and go after a true second line offensive centerman.

The King‘s already have a ton of cap space for next year and drastically alter their offensive lineup doing this.

I guess long story short is there is no need to move Danault in the King’s eyes.

As a fan, I think we have an in-house replacement with Kopitar and we have the money to go get awesome second line center to slot behind Byfield, so I would trade him.

If a 1st is balked at and we are not retaining I am good recovering draft picks we gave up and I ask for a 25 2nd and a 26 3rd.

More interested in using the cap space to address a need
