Its Berubes team now, he needs to make these calls and shake it up. As long as he steers the ship with purpose, we should support him. Babcock couldnt do it nor could Keefe, Blame the players, not the coaches.

I like Lorentz on the top line, how many dismissed Hyman when Babcock put him on the top line. How much would we like to have him back here?

Play heavy, dig out the puck, get it to his teammates. Get rewarded. The guy plays a simple game and it will work.

Hopefully that wave of low energy from Saturday has long since sailed into the cosmos. We're really due for a night where everyone is firing on all cylinders. Haven't seen that since well before Xmas.

I dunno if it’s just me, but this team is really hard to get excited about. The skill is getting boring and this neutered brand of hockey is really hard to watch even when they’re winning
 
This team isn't the same without McCabe in the lineup.
Many will say Tanev has been our best defenceman and he's been great but I'd say McCabe has been just as good. Can do a little bit of everything while playing tough minutes and OEL's game looked the most stable when he was playing with him. We have to hope this latest injury isn't too severe and he can return to form because this season he's been a real force.

Patches has kind of lost his spot in the lineup due to not being able to fit anywhere. Not good enough for the top line, (Not that Lorentz is, but I see what Chief is going for putting him there). He hasn't played well on the 2nd line. He won't have a spot on the 3rd line once Toronto acquires a center and Domi gets pushed to the wing. And he's not a good fit on your 4th line.

Eventually it's going to look something like:

Domi - Matthews - Marner
Knies - JT - Nylander
McMann - XXX - Robertson (Could be Jarnkrok depending on timeline / If Robby gets traded)
DeWar - Kampf - Lorentz

I want Minten instead of Kampf on the 4th line in the playoffs. He is so much better than Kampf.

Toronto has gone away from the skillful risker play and has started to make the safer play. It's a more boring brand of hockey for sure, but it's an effective one and one that helps win in a tight playoff game.

I don't think Toronto has blown a lead when leading after two periods this season, I think they are like 18-0, and I'm pretty sure Toronto is top of the league when it come's to 1 goal games.

Interesting take. you never know I guess and I like your optimism. If Lorentz turns into the next Hyman, I'll get my wife to bake you a cake. :)

I've thought this way before today on multiple occasions, but now I think it should be safe to post this because of how blatantly nonsensical the Lorentz-Matthews-Marner line combo is, without getting spammed with "it's too early" replies.

A lot of Berube's line combos he's gone with have been straight up puzzling. I get some things you have to try to see if they work or not, but some things (like Steven Lorentz playing on forward line 1) should literally get 0 reps because it's obviously not going to work.
