Eakins Needs to Go?

I want to see him with a better roster. The kids are improving, even if in fits, but the roster just isn't good enough offensively to make a proper judgement call on Eakins tactically.

I also don't get the sense that winning is necessarily the main priority. He's sheltering most of the kids, which I don't think is a trust issue, to pretty extreme levels and it seems like they're mostly focusing on getting them going.

I'm not sold at all that he's the guy but no reason to fire him this season, maybe not next season either although not sure a lame duck situation is great. Though that hasn't worked out terribly lately around the league.

Also, I don't want murray choosing another coach. If that means keeping Eakins through Murray leaving, then that's what it means. I don't think Eakins is actively harming the development of any of our guys.
After returning from being scratched, Terry had point first game back in. It appeared to work for whatever reason he was scratched for. Didn't Eakins repeatedly scratch Sprong for his play without the puck and the turnovers ?
Eakins seems to really want his offensively talented players to be better on both sides of the game.

Eakins was a good hire because of his familiarity with a lot of our prospects which would help the transition for both sides after being promoted, so I agree that he wasn't brought on purely with winning in mind. I don't know how much rope that gives him considering murray's public comments this past offseason.

We aren't privy to the conversations and specific desires Eakins has with each player though. Terry might be doing something over and over again that they have discussed daily about his game and that's why he keeps getting taken out. I don't know, that's the only thing that makes sense to me.

It's hard for me to credit a guy for getting a point when he whiffed with an empty net. But OK, he got a point. I don't think scratching guys teaches them anything. If the team is committed to Terry, he can't learn anything in the press box. I just think Eakins is feeling pressure to win games, and thought other guys gave him a better chance to do that.

They should just finish the season and then figure out what moves to make.

I say keep him for now.

Haven't been a fan of some of his lineup decisions this season but he can really only do so much from the sidelines. Probably more of a developmental/motivational/conditioning type of coach rather than master tactician and systems guy.

He's a great AHL coach but I don't trust him coaching in the NHL for some reason.

Kind of garbage for me to want to keep him around for 2021-22 as well as a de facto lame duck, but Bob’s contract runs through next year (I am operating under the assumption the Samuelis keep him) and I do not trust Murray with the say on who the next coach is at all since I don’t think he’s earned the right to hire another bench boss

ducks are nw 3+ seasons of not being able to put the puck in the net....it started under RC and has continued under Eakins...there are some common things/players/people during all of it...ducks were going to play "faster" after RC (or I would phrase it, play the game that it is played now to have any chance at winning)....problem is, that still hasnt happened, and this is my issue with eakins. the ducks are the only team i see that actually still has breakout pass to a stationary player on the half wall, THIS IS SLOW PLAY and a killer in todays NHL, why the still havent figured this out I DONT KNOW. there are also things eakins does that just makes me wonder how he is a coach in the NHL...I think its not working and he needs to go but more so BM needs to...dont have hopes that eiter will.

I kinda feel bad for him. This could be his last chance in the NHL honestly. He was seen as a disaster in Edmonton and this was his shot at redemption...hasn’t seen a whole lot of success...not that it’s his fault

Having said that, I don’t think he’s great. Doesn’t have a tremendous grasp of the personnel to me

Changing coaches in transition periods doesn't make much sense to me. Is he the right coach for the young players, should be the main question. And they like him, they improve under his belt. The Ducks play a 200ft game and most games were tight.
That's the most important aspect. Not how much wins he gets this season.

He's not a great coach, but I think he deserves a season under a different GM. The progress that we're seeing from some of our youngsters, such as Comtois, Lundy, etc., is the major "selling point" that he has right now.

Then again, a new GM might choose to clean out the current coaching staff entirely. We'll see.

My entire view of Eakins depends on how these young players finish the season, so far the first year and half has not been good but we also have a bottom 3 roster, so standings wise we are right where we should be however it's the lack of scoring that is absolutely maddening to watch

This morning as well I realized that I doubt he will be our head coach by the end of the year.
Not sure I am a fan of that, I don't thonk he has got much support here but the numbers just show the end will be soon. All those lost leads must be one of the final straws.

He needs to go. Sure the roster isn't great but the decisions he makes actively makes it worse.

Also this goddawful Pp looks atrocious.

Eakins being fired might help in the short run but not in the long run. He isn’t the only issue. Some of his decisions have been bad but he doesn’t have much to work with either.
