I want to see him with a better roster. The kids are improving, even if in fits, but the roster just isn't good enough offensively to make a proper judgement call on Eakins tactically.
After returning from being scratched, Terry had point first game back in. It appeared to work for whatever reason he was scratched for. Didn't Eakins repeatedly scratch Sprong for his play without the puck and the turnovers ?Also, I don't want murray choosing another coach. If that means keeping Eakins through Murray leaving, then that's what it means. I don't think Eakins is actively harming the development of any of our guys.
Eakins was a good hire because of his familiarity with a lot of our prospects which would help the transition for both sides after being promoted, so I agree that he wasn't brought on purely with winning in mind. I don't know how much rope that gives him considering murray's public comments this past offseason.I also don't get the sense that winning is necessarily the main priority. He's sheltering most of the kids, which I don't think is a trust issue, to pretty extreme levels and it seems like they're mostly focusing on getting them going.
I'm not sold at all that he's the guy but no reason to fire him this season, maybe not next season either although not sure a lame duck situation is great. Though that hasn't worked out terribly lately around the league.
We aren't privy to the conversations and specific desires Eakins has with each player though. Terry might be doing something over and over again that they have discussed daily about his game and that's why he keeps getting taken out. I don't know, that's the only thing that makes sense to me.After returning from being scratched, Terry had point first game back in. It appeared to work for whatever reason he was scratched for. Didn't Eakins repeatedly scratch Sprong for his play without the puck and the turnovers ?
Eakins seems to really want his offensively talented players to be better on both sides of the game.
It's hard for me to credit a guy for getting a point when he whiffed with an empty net. But OK, he got a point. I don't think scratching guys teaches them anything. If the team is committed to Terry, he can't learn anything in the press box. I just think Eakins is feeling pressure to win games, and thought other guys gave him a better chance to do that. After returning from being scratched, Terry had point first game back in.
