G Semyon Varlamov ($5.9/3 yr)
C Carl Soderberg ($4.75/4 yr)

:avs

G Kari Lehtonen ($5.9/2 yr)
RW Ales Hemsky ($4.0/1 yr)
Conditional 1st round pick in 2017 (Top 10 exempt; option to switch to 2018)
2nd round pick in 2018

Dallas gets a convincingly more competitive playoff option in Varlamov than Lehtonen will be while their window is open, and a solidly productive and affordable 2C in Soderberg. Colorado takes on two cap dumps who will hopefully be gone in a year or less, gets a few OK picks for their trouble, and clears up some room to add players who are a better fit.

I counter your offer by suggesting we don't give Dallas anything, but the Avs still clear $9m in cap space in the off season when Iginla and Stuart come off the books, and then we bring in players who are a good fit.

While you are correct, $9 million gives us space to sign 3 more Blake Comeau's, which you know is about all this management team is going to do. Let's get some real cap space and attempt to draw some quality talent instead. I don't think this deal is giving Dallas anything that Colorado isn't willing to part with anyways.

Although my stomach churns at the thought of 2 seasons of Kari Lehtonen in an Avs jersey.

I'd want more than that, especially in division. I wouldn't help Dallas whatsoever unless it's helping the Avs a lot more than that.

Like who? Because the FA crop is not good.

I think it helps Dallas in the lineup, but I think it helps us more with our salary and expansion plans. We're likely losing someone like Varlamov or Soderberg anyways - get some value for them from a team who they'll actually help.

No idea. Throw 5 years and $45 million at Brent Burns and get the last of what he's got to offer. Varlamov and Soderberg are not helping this team as they're being used right now.

Switch Hemsky for Eakin and deal, no take backs.

So, you want us to pay $9m per year in the hopes that Burns is able to keep up his current level of production for the next 5 years, even though he'll be 36 at the end of that contract? Did you learn nothing from Iginla's 3 year contract?

9M for Burns?! You think we cleared this cap space to get ourselves back into the same position 3 years into Burn's contract (Stuart, Iginla).

Pass.

I'd send Varly to Dallas for Lehtonen and their 1st, No restrictions.

It wouldn't bother me as much because I'd be more worried if they acquired Bishop than Varly, so might as well see if we can pre-emptively cut that trade route off.

I don't think Pickard is ready, but I'm not sure he provides us any worse goaltending than Varly for this year.

Dudes, Iginla turned 37 the day we signed him. This is apples and oranges.

70+ point defensemen do not grow on trees, nor do they generally immediately fall off a cliff. He's at PPG pace already this year, he's getting paid. Long term deal would be a mistake; 5 year term would not.

Varlamov will turn it around, and then the asking price will either be much higher, or he'll be unavailable.

Some team will offer Burns a 7 year deal. He'd be stupid not to wait for one that is that long.
