Would be nice to have a guy like Nelson on the roster to help carry the load until Ek is back to 100%. Nelson, Ek, Rossi down the middle sounds like a deep playoff run to me. Nelson can play wing too and would give the wild a lot of flexibility. I know our GM hasn’t traded valuable assets for a ‘rental’ but I wonder if this seasons hot start and the potential to resign Nelson past this year is enough motivation for Bill to go all in.

Personally not a fan of Heidt or Stramel, and if that 2026 1st isn't available either, then Ohgren has to be included or else a deal just isn't happening straight up. Other teams wouldn't give that quality of prospect up but they'd at least have a first + a regular prospect which will easily outbid Heidt + 2nd or whatever

Realistically the 2026 1st wouldn’t even be beneficial unless you want something that will be a 4-5 year project down the line. Outside of it being a 2025 1st (and not one of the last 3-5 of the round), the prospect would have to be something of substantial quality that can help the team in the next year or two (at the latest).

Why isn't Heidt a 'regular' prospect and what is a regular prospect?

That's not how this works. Nelson isn't suddenly worth Ohgren just because we don't have the 1st. If that disqualifies us so be it, but in no world does it mean Ohgren is suddenly a fair return.

Personally not a fan of sending anything of value for a guy that has a strong chance of signing in Minnesota in the offseason anyways. Trading Ohgren or a 1st for him would be a dumb shortsighted move.

It’s more like there’s no reason to just take some mediocre prospect who might top out as a bottom 6 forward and a 1st in 3 seasons from now (or a mid round pick from 2025) just to get an asset for Brock Nelson.

Well there's a reason to take the best offer you can get, which may or may not be Minnesota's offer.

Simple fact is he's going to get traded, and the return is likely going to be a 1st+prospect, and neither of those pieces are likely going to be as highly valued as Ohgren.

Who’s to say they won’t be? Teams usually overpay for high priced rentals in order to load up for the playoffs. Also knowing how Lou is, if the Isles are remotely close to the playoffs he won’t sell off assets in hopes of stocking up on picks/prospects for the future.

Simple fact is none of us know what is going to happen. That includes you and me.

The Isles are at best a bubble team and with the return of Barzal and Pelech to the lineup they could still make a run at a playoff spot. Throw in Sorokin standing on his head as he often does and maybe Nelson doesn’t get moved.

Assuming Lou remains at the helm, he could easily resign him for 3-4 more years. Not saying I agree with it but Lou does Lou.
