Depending on how long Miro's out this might be the next big move, Dallas bringing in a top-4 dman to try and fill the gap he leaves behind.

We had pretty much an identical thread to this with Bourque rather than Minnetian. Makes a ton of sense as a fit for EK to Dallas.
Bourque is not moving in a trade for Karlsson.

Yes and that was the response in that thread.
Karlsson at $7 million for Dumba and a 1st or Karlsson at $5 million for Dumba, a prospect and a 1st was pretty widely agreed upon.
Marcus Pettersson at 50% retained for 2025 2nd and Emil Hemming is probably the trade that makes the most sense here.
Dallas uses LTIR space from Heiskanen and still gets Pettersson at 2M and has space to make another major deal.

I don't particularly feel like this is enough for me to also use a retention slot on Pettersson
Hemming isn't really having a good draft+1 year. I'd probably want Bichsel over Hemming if I'm also retaining 50% on MP. And I'd understand if Dallas said no to that.

Well I very much doubt Karlsson is getting moved. Rakell seems unlikely as well and using retention on him long term is veyr unlikely as well. Using it on MP makes the most sense since he is a rental and it would reset the slot after this season.
Hayes seems like more of a next season trade. MP is their most valuable trade asset and retaining on him makes him even more valuable. Sure maybe the return could be better, won't argue there. Bischell would be ideal but not sure if Dallas would move him since he's contributing at the NHL level for them. Maybe Dallas throws in another pick (conditional 3rd that turns into a 2nd if they make the SCF?)

50% retention and you have a 8 million dollar UFA (my number I think he'd be paid in UFA) for 5 million.
