Little bit surprised after he's cleared a few times already. Decent speed and effort level, but probably not much in terms of untapped offense.

Good pickup by Dallas, imo.

Studenic will most likely never be anything more than a 4th liner, but on the other hand he's pretty much what you want in a modern checker. He's got speed and an active stick which makes him good on the forecheck and penalty kill. So far he's not been very productive at the NHL level, but he's got better hands than the typical 4th line grinder back in the day.

How bad does one have to be to get waived by the Devils?
[MOD]

even the worst teams have injuries. they call up players, which are waiver eligible and send them down again.

how dump must one be to post such a comment?

We are pretty bad team though and in Fitz era have been giving roster spots for free, Studenic received one of them and didn't really make a strong case that he's regular NHLer.

Will be interesting to see how he fits with the Stars. Seems like with several entitled forwards in the Devils lineup his opportunity wasn't going to come in New Jersey.

Much like Maltsev with the Avs, he is likely good insurance for the Stars should they reach the post-season.

Definitely hurts Utica - he's been very good for the Devil's farm team in the games I've seen him there.

Good motor, good defense, brings physicality, not really much offense at all.

Decent 4th line energy/PK guy that can take a regular shift without being a liability but really has no ceiling.

Wait, Dallas assigned him to the AHL? How did that happen, does that mean that the Devils passed on getting him back?

Conditioning loan, so he still counts against Dallas' NHL roster limit. Hopefully Marian can get some good BBQ while he's near Austin.

Conditioning Loan
The standard form of the loan lasts for 14 consecutive days. The player is sent to the AHL, plays in whatever games he’s assigned and then returns to the NHL at the end. His salary is paid as if he’s in the NHL, and the player counts against the salary cap and the 23-man roster limit. A team has to have the kind of cap situation that allows for enough players as extras to make this possible.

The Commissioner has the right to investigate the circumstances of any loan, so teams cannot use the loan to evade waivers or the salary cap.

Players must consent to conditioning loans as well.
