First off - his name is spelled as “Oliwer Sjöström“, I don’t like to put the accents or umlauts for the player in titles so it is easier for Western individuals to find these threads and maybe learn something. Sjöström looks like he could be a top defensive prospect out of Sweden for 2025 a he is already playing J20 hockey and doesn’t turn 16 until April. He is a very smart and mature player - he is a great, smooth skater and is able to make sweet outlet passes with ease. Definitely a kid to keep an eye on moving forward.

Good Interview from him here:

Looked great yesterday (despite playing with some minor injury) in TV-Pucken quarterfinals. Semi coming up today.

+ Awesome skater (no wonder, since he just quit playing bandy)
+ "only" 5'10 (177 cm) yet, but plays big, plays physical and seems to be quite strong
+ very good hockey sense
+ strong puck carrying skills
+ great passer

Like mentioned previously, he is already a regular in the Swedish U20 league as an U16 defenseman. And that's on a fairly strong team with good competition and depth. VERY few defensemen have accomplished that historically in Sweden (see which ones here: Elite Prospects - J20 Nationell Stats All-time season). And most of them only saw a handful of games or played for pretty mediocre teams with no depth.

Sjöström appears to be a very special player
