In threads where Czech hockey players are discussed, and especially in the topic about Radim Mrtka, you can often read the following: if a defenseman plays in an senior league, if he is tall (preferably 6'4''+) and if he is right-handed, then scouts should definitely evaluate him and select him, preferably in the first round, even if his game is not always perfect.
Then I am ready to present to you: "Radim Mrtka-version-2" Max Psenicka!
6'4.5", right shoots, plays in the Extraliga. He started out in the U20 league, but his last games are with the senior team, and I think he'll stay there until the end of the season. And, as far as I remember, he spent the entire preseason with the main team and scored points (and not just one). And while Mrtka's name can only be seen in the "assists" column in the scoresheets, Psenicka scored a goal in today's game. He played for Slavia for a long time, and has playing for Plzen since the new season. And he gets a lot of ice time (for a player his age): in four of the last five games his TOI was 13 minutes (the same Mrtka spends an average of 7-8 minutes per game).

Who is better in your opinion?
 
Today he scored his second goal of the season. And he still has half a season left. He can reach the level of 6-7 points per season. Defensemen with such productivity, playing in one of the elite senior leagues (KHL, SHL, Liiga, Extraliga CZ, NL, Extraliga SK), with a height of 6'4" and a right shot are usually selected in the first round!

His ability to activate and make plays offensively as he did on that goal are certainly intriguing. He does that a lot and does it well.

What round do you think he’ll be drafted in?
 
All these Czech defensemen shoot right. They need to start teaching these kids at a young age that play defense to shoot left.

The U20 was stronger on left side this year. I get your point but too many RHD would be fine by me!

Next year we even out perfectly too

I personally think almost all of the best NHL prospects of the bunch are right shots (Jiricek bros, Mrtka, Badinka, Dravecky, Kachlir, Spacek).

Slovaks have the same problem with Nemec, Strbak, Radivojevic.

But you’re right. It’s a high class problem to have.

I completely agree with you ftr. But it's like having too many starting goalies or too many 1C's to me.

But, it could be a problem in the future for sure. Our Top LD guys are Dvorak, Galvas and Fibigr I think. Not sure what side Hamara is. I think Svozil is a LHD?

But, honestly, I just want some guys in the NHL.. I'd take 5RHD full time in the NHL.lol

Neat interview. I don't know enough about him but we get a Czech riser every year lately... wondering if our bonus drafted players will be Galvas in round 2, Psenicka and Cihar in top 100?

He will either rise like Mrtka when. He plays in CHL or drop like pekar when he hits CHL.

On the surface using stat watching.. he seems very promising.

Hoping for strong CHL and strong U18 to bump that up.

Bob's list is very encouraging though. Puts more eyes on him.

Also, this was an all Czech import affair.. both goalies were Czech (Stebatek and Matecha) and Martin Necas's future .ppg winger Max Curran!

Nice introduction, hope ha can keep it up, it would be awesome if some prospects unexpectedly rise to 2nd/3rd round since we lost Zahejsky and Pekar
