Saw this Latvian defenseman listed as a notable prospect for 2024, can someone tell me more about him? Always excited to see if any of these kids from lesser hockey countries can cement themselves as top 5 picks

I was wondering when he could get a thread.
I have to note that he plays as a F, not a D which he is listed for some reason.

Their first 2 games weren't against the best teams in the league, 4p in 2g is quite intriguing for a 16 yo in a men's league. Last year he was the MVP of the second strongest league, as a 15yo.
His older brother just got the Memorial Cup and will try to crack the Pens in the following years.

Fingers crossed that he will be a good one.

You are awesome for this. Thank you.

A bump.

Eliteprospects lists him 6 foot 4 / 220 lbs
That's a man body for a 16 year old kid.

In the Latvian top tier league for HS Riga?
9 goals, 12 points in 21 games
- leads his team in goals, 3rd in points.

Can someone tell me about this HS Riga team
are they a pro team? because all of
their players are under 18 year olds.

They do play in the Optibet Hockey League, right?

For HS Riga 17, 2 goals, 4 points in 3 games.

He is playing in the 2022 WJAC atm.
1 game, no points so far.

HS Riga is the base team for Latvian U-18 players, and yeah, they play in our main league against men. They are doing fairly well, usually, they are bottom dwellers.

He has cooled down a bit, he was almost a PPG player at the start. Not sure what happened.
When I saw him play, he looked big but slow, and maybe even a bit passive. Last game I saw, the head coach (who is also coaching our U-18 in WJAC) was screaming at him

But he has 2 years to get his shit together before the draft :) Size is impressive.

Apparently scored a goal yesterday in a win vs Sweden. Just to remind, he's an underager (probably was the biggest guy on ice anyway )

Edit: why is he regarded as ''D'' in the thread title?
