In Russian his name is pronounced rather Artyom Maté so don't confuse it with English mate.
He's 5'9 on Eliteprospect, but watching him playing at the Sirius Cup I'd say he looks much bigger than that. 6'0 at the very least, probably even bigger. He's the top defenseman on Team Russia U16 who plays in all situations. And he can score, defend and hit.

It seems to me, although I am not exactly sure, that his surname is of Hungarian origin.
As of the beginning of the current season, Shtyrkhunov is slightly ahead of Mate among Russian defensemen, but Mate is also trying to keep up, and is quite noticeable in the Spartak team. It is interesting that another Spartak defenseman is improving in the new season - Illarion Babkin. I will also keep an eye on Rossinsky (CSKA). The latter two have also started to be involved in games in the U18 league (07/08yob).
