As some of you might have read, Czech fans were banned from displaying Ukrainian flag at the matches. They complied…

Go home Ivan, Natasha waits for you.

(Start of the lyrics to a short protest song associated heavily with 1968 “friendly visit” of the Warszaw pact forces)

I'm curious what's the official policy on national flags of countries not participating in the tournament. I recall Kazakhstani flags being displayed by fans at the arena even during the years when Kazakhstan has been in Division 1A.

At nearly all the games I attended in previous years there were flags from countries not in the games on display.

Wow, is this true - Ukrainan flag was disallowed?

putler's lapdog fasel is no longer the chief of IIHF, russia has been thrown out - but if you cannot show support to UKR in the audience it seems that the IIHF is still implementing some idiotic rules.

Well, perhaps the idea was not to allow any russian flags floating around in the audience, and it's easier to ban all flags instead of stating clearly that russian propaganda-flags are not allowed.

Quite creative "compliance".

I still remember Dubcek, the Prague Spring, and the day Soviet tanks rolled into Prague, which was my birthday. Obviously the Czechs have not forgotten.

I remember a "similar" situation during one of the Stockholm/Helsinki World Championships in 2012 or 2013 when the Belarusian white-red-white flag was not allowed to be visible in the arena. The IIHF sure knows how to pick their battles :sarcasm:

My grandma found out she’s carrying my dad shortly after the tanks came. Weird experience.
