I feel like Forsberg and some others were fair, where the contact was gonna happen and they just braced for it/timed it better, but agreed on one like this. It’s an infuriating move- smart, because they rarely call it.

No it isn't.

This isn't two players locked and then one overpowering the other, this is one playing the body.

It's just the NHL allowing things to go for some reason.

Just like putting your hand on someone is holding, unless you're using that hand to throw them to the ice, then it's fine.

Nope. You have the right to the ice you occupy. Generally a reverse hit is just a case of an unaware player being surprised that the player in front of them isn't moving out of the way.

About the least forceful reverse hit I’ve seen. I don’t like the ones when they go high into the face. Kind of an odd one to

What the replay a bunch of times. Connor did what you're supposed to do when going in for a puck in the corner. He braced for impact and protected himself. For whatever reason Crosby just went for the poke and lost his footing because Connor leaned into him. The refs didn't call it because these kind of puck battles happen 600 times per game. Usually there isn't a tantrum about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it really does seem like you're allowed to the ice at your own feet at virtually any time, even if you're doing things that are unexpected and perhaps even go against the flow of the game.

It seems like he's trying to set up and read for a bounce but even if he were just refusing to play the puck out of some kind of general protest or outstandingly poor strategy he's still allowed to be there, and you'd have to prove that the act of him stopping involves intentionally interfering with the player coming in behind him...

players who are irresponsible with this "currency" won't last long in the league but the spirit of this seems to protect players' rights and subsequent safety in 50/50 battles and insulate against bad actors cutting corners to draw penalties.
