Bruins are going to need to dump cap.

Craig Smith is making 3 million. He scored 16 even strength goals last year as a bottom sixer. He is a high effort player and puts a lot of pucks on net. Scores because he shoots a lot.

I understand the Bruins are going to have to pay. They (maybe? My math might be wrong) can do some dumb stuff like run a 21 man roster when Forbort comes off LTIR, but no one wants that.

Bruins don’t have a 2nd rounder until like 2123 so looking at something around 3rd+ or prospects.

I would think that a rebuilding team could get some assets from Boston now, and then retain 50% at the deadline to get another round of assets. Not gonna pretend Smith is going to bring back something amazing, but a chance to double dip on the value sounds nice.

I could see him getting claimed off waivers since he's a UFA after the season. I could see one of the fringe playoff teams with cap space taking a flyer on a veteran shooting winger.

Washington actually needs a player like this and has the space due to all their forwards currently being in coffins.

I wouldn't pay to shed Smith. I understand every bottom dweller would require payment, so they shouldn't be looking to move him to clubs like that.

I am not giving up assets or picks to move a guy that scored 16 goals last year................

That’s the rub. It’s only the shitty teams that wouldn’t care about adding Smith. And maybe some teams like Washington who are sitting on a bunch of LTIR.
Even if some bottom team takes Smith and if plays well they move him at the deadline for picks or assets and if they can't move him he is on the last year of his contract,,,,,,,,,,, people can say what they want he is still a pretty good player and I have worse than him get moved at the deadline......

The Oilers badly need a RW who can play up with McDrai and produce at least something even strength. They also have $5M in LTIR until Kane returns, so it’s a possible fit. However they would need to find a trade partner for one of Foegele, Yamamoto or Puljujarvi before then to be compliant.

Other factor is real salary>> cap hit

they couldn’t move him in the offseason. Nothing has changed to say he is suddenly more moveable.

They weren’t trying to move him in the off-season. Marchand and McAvoy coming back early and the Bruins burning extra cap space because of a bunch of short term injuries changed their cap situation.

The Canucks have a few LTIR contracts expiring, if we can neutralize the threat of their return this season I think we could find a way to work something out.

Or you could do us a solid and take Poolman back, but that would be a huge imposition to ask for that.

As time goes on he’ll fit on most playoff teams specially at the deadline his cap hit won’t be that much I’ll leave that for the professionals to figure out that number but the question will be if the Bruins wait that long will they bother trading him maybe by trading earlier the next team can flip him at the deadline is where I’m going with this tho..

Apparently Ottawa offered him more money than he ended up signing for he was a UFA. In fact, I believe we turned to Dadonov (who we signed for 3yrs x 5.0m) only after we missed out on Smith.

I wouldn't be surprised if we would be interested, and could see us sending over a middling asset (maybe a 4th or so).

To Boston - John Moore LTIR (final year @2.75M)

To Anaheim - BOS 4th, OTT 6th

To Ottawa - Craig Smith (50% retained by Anaheim = 1.5M cap hit pro rated.
Unless insurance is footing the bill for Moore's contract currently, it seems like the Ducks are getting value for pretty much nothing here.

Oh right thanks. Yeah no, teams should pay for smith. Maybe not a ton, but hes value positive not negative at his contract, experience and recent production. This isnt matt belesky or david backes with craig smith

He's not a bad player, but he's also one of those players that nobody really covets and tries to make a big move for, or use their cap space on.

A bit inconvenient for the Bruins that they'll probably have to make that move before the deadline, where a player like Craig Smith would actually fetch them something.

I’m in if we are sure Moore is done for the year. Would really mess things up if he said he was healthy in two months.

We haven't heard much on Moore so I wouldn't be able to say for sure. Last update was that he's out indefinitely with an unknown injury, assumed to be the same concussion issue from last year.

Though the more I think of it, Moore's inclusion is not really necessary from Anaheim's end.
