Confirmed with Link: Coyotes claim G Scott Wedgewood off of waivers from New Jersey

Carter Hutton probably couldn’t even be an above average back up in the ECHL. He should be retired. He can’t play at all.

Prosvetov should be in the AHL getting starts and winning games.

Vejmelka HAS to have SOMEBODY to back him up. So I guess this makes some amount of sense on some level. But the problem is that Wedgewood is not an NHL caliber goalie. He doesn’t belong in the NHL. He can’t play in the NHL.

Bahahaha Wedgewood isn't worth the phone call to let him know you claimed him .... good luck with that!

I mean... neither was Flower apparently. Maybe not the best analogy to make =D

Also, I don't think you realize how bad we are this year (and also that this is intentional from a mgmt / ownership level). If Wedgewood keeps us respectable-ish and helps the development of our top long term goalie prospect (by letting him stay in Tucson), that's a win. We don't need Wedgewood to be winning games. We do need him to provide NHL-ish backup level goaltending and give Melk a break every so often and help make 5-1 games with AHL goaltending (Hutton) into the 3-1 games they could / should be. That's a lot to ask but imo Wedgewood has a good chance

Ughhhh

it gets Provs back to A though so that’s a positive. Doesn’t prevent us from doing something else. Its a meh move.

Has to be better than Hutton, right?
It doesn’t really matter. Neither belong in the NHL. This is poor roster management by Bill Armstrong, plain and simple.

They're using a contract slot on him, and when they waive him or Hutton, either is definitely going to clear waivers. Now what? We send Korenar to the ECHL? That’s pretty messed up, IMO.

Nobody is going to be able to convince me that we couldn’t have traded Korenar and a draft pick for some goalie that’s at least passable as an NHL-level back-up.

I’m curious to learn what @XX thinks about this move. Especially as it relates to trades/waivers options, goalie depth, and contracts.

See, it’s this part I don’t like. I feel like it does slightly tie our hands.

Unless Hutton is going to the LTIR for the rest of the season or if he’s told the team he’s going to retire if they send him down. I don’t know how else we’re going to rid ourselves of TWO of Hutton/Korenar/Wedgewood in order to bring in a goaltender capable of playing in the NHL.

I’m confused by this. Very disappointed.
