Everywhere, World.
Seeing the Russia-North America game, i've asked myself something. Now i'm asking y'all the same question: Can you see team North America win the tournament and win against top tier teams such as Canada or Usa etc?

Let's discuss.

Should it be all that shocking that the team is good?:dunno:

Just from raw numbers you would think they should be able to put together a pretty good team. Nearly 1,000 players played in the NHL last year. Of those 1,000 players over 70% are NA. Of those ~700 NA players I would imagine ~20% are U24, meaning NA is picking from a pool of ~140 NHL players, that is a far larger pool than any team that isn't Canada or the US.

each country is entitled to pick anybody from their country, whether they play nhl or not

Yes, they are the second best team in the tournament and could definitely get some luck and best Canada. No question about it.

That wasn't my point.

The NHL attracts most of the top talent, so having more NHL players is probably a pretty good indicator that you have a deeper and more talented pool to chose from.

I hope so.

Nothing will solidify the absurdity of this event more than "Team North America" listed as the winner.

Impossible to take seriously.

100%. It took their top defenseman and goalie being injured as well as some luck for Russia to barely sneak out a win. They completely dominated a very fast and skilled Finland team, they're the best team besides Canada.

You don't have to take it seriously to enjoy it. It's entertaining hockey, I'm just happy I get to watch a team this good. I could care less who wins it, though it's likely going to be Canada or NA. It'll be tougher for NA now that Ekblad is out for the tournament and probably Murray for a while atleast.

It's adrenaline and youth but they probably don't make it out of the group. It would be a very tough task for them to beat any grown up team in best of 3.

Maybe they win one game because Murray stands on his head but there is no way they are beating Canada in a best of 3. Up and down the roster NA loses every matchup.

They cant beat Canada in a best of 3, which is what the final is. So no.

They are the most talented team in the tournament, I don't have much doubt about that any more, but the loss of Ekblad is huge. I think that basically cost them the game today.

They lack the D and while they have have a very good goalie he is also very unexperinced.

I dont think they will win the tournament and I dont even think they will advance to the elimination games.

Unfortunately for them, Sweden and Russia will probably be advancing from their group. I don't think they would beat Canada either.

I don't see the cohesiveness like Team Europe has. Talent and enthusiasm can take you far but you need the discipline to go far and the long shifts and guys showing frustration show its not coming together. But it's a short tournament so I'd give em a 10% chance
