As folks are often asking about the relative prices of teams in the various leagues....

An ECHL expansion team costs about $475,000. Farhi has estimated that running the team will cost between $2.5 million and $3.5 million annually

(From feature article on one of the co-owners for the new ECHL San Francisco Bulls, affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Inaugural season debuts in about a month.)

Well, that certainly explains why the Express folded after only one season while drawing an average of only 2,500 per game (likely rounding up by a decent amount, too).

Based on personal experience it was very poorly run. I would almost be inclined to say that some of the people higher up had no clue how to run a professional sports franchise and some just had no clue what was going on within the organization.

... interesting. Any breakdown on the salary structures? I understand its capped and includes housing & food per diems etc no?

Check out the ECHL forum. (There used to be a thread on minor league salaries, with excerpts from the respective CBAs.)

(There is a "max" that would get applied to someone on a NHL-one-way contract that gets assigned to the league.)

Edit: It's even a stickied thread: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=282433
