It's actually a tough decision for him. If my ass was on the line like his would I really trust a rookie?
Husso has looked not too bad at all this time up, but I think SY wants to see something a little more than shuffling the forward deck chairs, especially if he looking at moving a goalie or maybe two by the TDL.

Both Lyon and Talbot skated today (but did not practice), so I can't see them being too far away from returning, it would be a shame to not get Cossa into at least one game while he is up, and a road game is good debut to reduce the pressure of performing in front of the home crowd, I wonder if his parents are travelling with the team? (The usual sign of a pending NHL debut)

I think the only way Lalonde is in danger this year is if he totally loses the core in the room and the wheels come completely.

I’m glad Cossa got the win but we can’t deny he looked shaky. Not great rebound control and was a few posts away from losing this in regulation and OT. Maybe just nerves?
There seem to be 2 versions of Cossa....dialed-in and shaky. He has been alot more consistent in GR and has ironed things out a bit better. Obviously this was his first game up, so we will see going forward.

Well after all of hype Cossa is not ready for the big team. His goals against last night were soft goals.
Ummm what? A screened/tipped shot with the rebound lucking directly onto an attacker's stick and a breakaway are not soft goals.

He looked shaky and nervous, but I'm not worried about that in the long run and the goals he let in definitely were not "soft"

Looked to me like you would expect a goalie making his NHL debut coming in cold to look.

The first goal, he was out of position on the rebound, but I still can't tell when or where the deflection happened. Don't know if he overplayed the original shot, simply caught leaning wong way trying to find it through traffic, or perhaps it was a much bigger deflection than I can see and it was a good play just to get a pad on it in the first place.

The second goal, seems like he made a good play, but a bit-mis timed, and something that would be fine after adjusting to NHL game.

He got beat pretty clean on the break away post, was good in shoot out (which I don't care about too much - no shootouts when the games really matter).

He made some good saves in the 2nd, in particular at least one really nice one moving to his left on a shot from point blank range.

All in all a good, not great debut, all things considered.

Glad Cossa got the win and hope he builds on it. But he did have some shaky moments last night. Bungled what should of been an easy cover on the one play. Thought he had some issues going post to post on some cross ice passes, but Buffalo couldn't make him pay.

Still believe he can be something special though.

Thought it was really important for Cossa to see some time in net regardless of the outcome. I've got enough confidence in him at this point to think he won't be rattled from the lows of the experience. Proud of him getting his chance in the SO, and the team for getting it there for his first win.

Not only was it his first game but he was also probably not necessarily expecting to see action.
Exactly.

Did anybody actually EXPECT a rookie going in cold to look like a Hall of Famer right off the bat?

See if anybody can guess this other player based on trivia from his first NHL game:
* When asked about getting ready for the game: "I've never been that nervous before in my life."
* Down 2-0 just 2:33 into the 1st period
* Lost 4-2

That was how the NHL career of WAYNE GRETZKY started. So I'd imagine that it's pretty common for jitters to affect a rookie the first time around.

Well I'm glad you didn't knee jerk reaction after coming into a game cold to get his first ever start, being behind after the other goalie got pulled and knowing the game hinges on his shoulders

I'm glad that keeping us in it to win the game didn't spoil your opinion of him after 40 minutes of ice time.

Last season? Howard was never that good and could not stay healthy.
Howard was keeping pace with prices numbers for 6 seasons. He might not have been top 5 in the league but he was outstanding many nights for us. Husso has never been close to howie
