With the emergence of Kinkaid I wonder if the Devils will use this opportunity to move on from Cory Schneider. Are there any assets of value the Devils could acquire for him or is his contract negative value at this point?

I personally think there's quite a few teams out there in serious need of a goalie who would love to try him out, even with the risk he can't bounce back.

Sens and Stars should be interested

A Holtby for Schneider (+?) would be interesting

I remember two years ago people roasted me bc I said the Jets shouldn’t trade for him. People roasted me saying the Jets should happily give up the farm to get him. He’s 32 now, last two years have been poor results and a huge contract. Pretty happy the Jets stuck with Hellebuyck.

Hellebuyck was the only goalie I would’ve been okay with in a return for Schneider. I didn’t want him traded then and don’t really want to see him moved now, unless it’s a great deal.

I think they should give him one more year or at least the start of next year to see if he’s officially trending downwards and if Kinkaid can keep up his current level of play.

I would describe the recent play of Kinkaid as a "hot streak" not an "emergence." Not saying he can't become a starter, or anything like that. But it wasn't enough time, in my opinion, to claim that he's now a starting goalie.

If NJ wants to trade Schneider, they should have very little trouble finding a dance partner. 6 million for 4 more years isn't cheap, so they sure can't ask for the moon. They would probably have to take a contract back (not saying a cap dump). But teams should and would be interested.

I agree keep him one more year, don’t sell low on him this summer. Hopefully he can bounce back some.

I am still of the opinion that Schneider is still nursing an injury and will get surgery once the season concludes.

He was playing arguably the best hockey of his career in December. Now, he can't seem to buy a good game. I just don't know if a goalie realistically falls off a cliff like that without some other reason being in play.

I am still hoping he can bounce back next year and at least be an average NHL goalie again.

Again? Has he ever been average?

I agree with you it is odd that someone can seem to lose it so completely at the age of 31-32.

Exactly. He was never average.

But I guess you can say hoping for him being average again - even if he never was :thumbu:

What? Save percentage over .920 as a starter three consecutive years. He was one of the best in the league

edit: I see your second post please disregard you've successfully caused some confusion

I agree with this. Pretty sure we will find out that there is something else lingering. Team does fall apart in front of him as of late, that Wash was horrible, left him out there by himself on some of those goals. Let's see how Kinky does in the POs. Fleury was washed up too!

"Emergence"? I wouldn't recommend the Devils trade away their depth at goal just because Kinkaid looks temporarily decent.

By comparison, Connor Hellebuyck has "emerged"

Yeah this reminds me of the Holtby situation. Wanting to move a very proven goalie because one who has never played even half a season until now did well doing it this year for the very first time. Very risky.

A Holtby for Schneider (+?) would be interesting

Would trade Schneider for Holtby in a heartbeat from Devils perspective. If for no other reason to cut the term of the contract in half. Holtby has been in the wars (with mixed results) but would take my shot with him over a very shaken Corey Schneider right now for sure. Can't see that ever happening.

Islanders are desperate for goalie help. Would they take a shot on Schneider rediscovering his form? How about Schneider to NYI for Ho-Sang, Greiss and 2018 3? Devils take a scoring RW (need) with promise and need of a change of scenery, a backup goalie with half salary and term of Schneider and a draft pick.

12th pick + Greiss + Ladd from the Islanders for Schneider and Zajac

And just to make this trade more in favor of the Devils, the Ladd for Zajc part could wait till July the 1 then the Islanders would have to give Ladd his 5M signing bonus, thus making his actual salary for 2018/19 1M dollars(and a collective 18M over 5 years in actual salary)

I agree. Also, the Devils don't have any cap trouble for 2 more seasons. Don't see the rush in moving him.

Really don't think NJD would want to help out a division rival pushing for the same sort of playoff spot like that, but if Schneider were on the market...Carolina ought to be all over that. Not sure what they'd do with Darling's salary in that scenario, but it'd be a bridge to cross when they come to it i guess.

I remember people asking for Gibson+(+) for Schneider just last summer (thread). I'm also pretty okay with how things went.
