If a person is healthy and feels fine there is no reason for them to not do what they want to do within reason. Going out to eat or for a drink is not a mortal sin, not now, not ever. It's their choice and they shouldn't be cast as villans. If somebody wants to stay in their bedroom for the next 2 weeks that is their choice also.

It's been said over and over that you can be symptom-free and have the virus. People can show some self-control and not go out for a drink for a little. It's not that hard.

Honestly, I hate fear-mongering, I think it's as bad if not worse than reckless behavior. But you need to have SOME self-control and give up something for a little bit in a crisis.

Agree here. The original criticism wasn't about getting a meal or a drink -- it was about a day-long pub crawl bender.

Anyone personally affected yet? Family members, friends or otherwise tested positive?

Got a co-worker in quarantine, but they are only testing the most ill and/or patient with severe symptoms here in Norway now. We are pushing hard to get her tested, as our company is handling a big portion of the trucks cossing from EU to Norway (close contact with drivers that can en up criss-crossing the continent in 2 weeks). If she got the virus I'm not really sure how we can handle it. No real possibility to replace us, and a very high risk of infecting many peoples that travel far even with the travel restrictions in place.

She had no knowledge about any contact with any confirmed infected person, but the infection is freely spreading in many european countries now.

This is not a police state. Those people going out for a drink are doing nothing wrong. It has nothing to do with being mentally weak. What are you even talking about? You are contradicting yourself from earlier. Are these people licking the bar when they have a drink?
It's not a police state but even in a free society when someone is contagious there is forced quarantine. We have had it many times in the US - it's an accepted curb on your rights in order for you not to infringe on the public's rights to health. A symptomatic carrier who refuses to self isolate will probably get locked up at some point during this COVID-19 pandemic.

This is a time of shared sacrifice, those who are staying home or not congregating in groups in public are doing their part. But I guess you're special, you obviously find a way to sleep at night so let everyone else do the work for you. Congratulations

It should've been obvious to me the circus was canceled seeing as theres a few clowns hanging around here. I guess the phrase "highly contagious" is as chinese as the virus itself to them. But yeah, go ahead and go to crowded bars and see how well that does for you or the ones you care about with weakened immune systems.

Yeah, I don't know about getting one drink in a small neighborhood pub or one meal, I think while not ideal it's understandable, but pub crawls at a time like this is disgusting.

LMAO. What did I do? Oh yeah, I went out to eat last night to support a local dining establishment. I guess that's a crime now. Get a grip. I do believe that anybody who is sick or tested positive should obviously self quarantine, no brainer. I just feel that people who are healthy can go out for a drink or meal without it being the crime of the century.

The question is whether we have enough hospital beds for the portion of the 1% that get really sick. We do not. By a long stretch. Read an article or two. It's about flattening the curve.
Sure we do, unless you believe everything you read on the internet and think 500 million people will all need to be in the hospital at once from this. Not everyone would get sick all at once. 99% of people will recover just nicely in their bed like any other flu.

So on the subject of stockpiling. We have all seen the pics and videos of those crazy mofos buying enough toilet papers for a year, what have you guys stocked up on?

Myself i bought 4 frozen pizzas, a handfull of Ramen packages and a big pack of TP instead of the normal small one. And an extra 4 pack of Coke Zero. Should be enough for a 4-5 day interupt in deliveries to my local supermarket. Resent that I havent bought any beer, but according to my friends there is lot left of that in the shop. Flour, rice and canned foods are mostly out of stock at the store, but are expected to get into store during the week.

 Dude life your life. Don't let anyone here, especially a bunch of "experts" on a message board tell you otherwise.

From what i gather there will be no lack of beds, but a lack of respirators (those breathing machines if it is not the correct english word). Those getting real sick are having liquids in their lungs, and need help to breath.

As for Norway we have 560 beds with the needed equipment, for a 5.22 million population. A number of these will already be ocupied by normal patients, leaving the buffer for Corona victims even lower.

My fiancee and her father have at least been working in the same hospital of one confirmed positive case.

Fortunately, they haven't been in contact with them. Her sister would pretty much be done for due to her being immune-compromised.

<crickets>
Just know when you've lost, chief.

This is factually inaccurate. Italy is seeing ~10% of all confirmed cases being admitted to ICU, with many of those needing respirators

I think going to a small restaurant that has a limited amount of people is not ideal but understandable.

With all due respect, I really don't care what you or anybody else thinks about me going out for a meal. My friend owns a restaurant that is going through some rough times and I will continue to try to help him.
