My friend just texted me and told me her household tested positive for antibodies, negative for active corona.

Five people in her house, one had minor cold symptoms, four never got sick. Pretty crazy.

So many of us have already had this and have no idea.

he’s not serious.

The fickle, bias media frauds, who present as if they are experts in everything, keep whining about few tests and the spread of corona. POTUS points out we have conducted more tests than any nation and b/c of more tests we discover more cases. Cuts back on tests so the media can’t whine about more cases and they whine about that too. The media want it all ways and i believe that silent majority sees through all this nonsense.

i’m thinking the strain is weak and I’m still wary for the autumn. Have had colleagues in terrible shape and now others feel so/so for a week and that’s it.

Phase 2 for NYC today, Phase 3 for Mid-Hudson tomorrow! Have fun, get out there but stay safe and wear a face covering.

Let’s keep this thing at bay as long as we can till there is a vaccine.

Will a mask protect me at the barber sufficiently? I can't wait to get a haircut but the barber will be poking around my face for 20-30 minutes.

BTW, I ordered food at a Russian restaurant yesterday and when I came to pick it up not only did I see that they had outside seating before phase 2 started they had INSIDE seating that wasn't socially distanced, they had empty seats but some tables of people were near each other. The restaurant is outside of view so they can be out of sight but I was appalled.

Wearing a mask won't protect you significantly. It will protect others in case you...expectorate. It's a simple yet important distinction. Masks are for protecting others. Unless you're wearing one of those heavy-duty respirator dealies.

I hate to say it I don't have too much confidence in my barber doing the right thing. Maybe I should give him more credit. I'll go to another barber if he's not wearing a mask.
Sorry. No mask.....little off the top?

I heard this a long time ago but I thought that was an antiquated take on it. I've heard since then that it DOES protect you.

I wouldn't bet on it. They don't even cover the mouth and nose fully. And most of them are just kind of cheap "filter" paper. They're effective in stopping crap coming out of your mouth or nose but not the other way. At least that's my layman's understanding. But I've been living in a mask-wearing country for a long time. And that's how masks are understood here.

Edit: to be clear, I'm talking about the paper masks. I assume there are more protective ones out there but most of what I see are the paper ones... And less...like bandanas. So that's my point of reference.

So do I have absolutely no way to protect myself from Covid then unless I never leave the house?

That's true enough when you're just going about your day. But the barber is touching your face and breathing near you for an extended period. That's where the risk of transmission tends to be higher. My barbers are orthodox russian jews, two groups not known for following the rules. :help:

There's no way to completely isolate yourself from risk. That being said, if you maintain distancing guidelines, wear a mask, avoid touching your face, and wash your hands frequently, you are at a very low risk of contracting it. More importantly, you have a very low risk of transmitting it if you have it but are asymptomatic.

I’m just talking about the efficacy of wearing a paper mask. I wouldn’t consider it a huge help if you’re the only one wearing one. The masks are more effective when both people are wearing them.

While it's more effective if both people are wearing them (assuming two people talking to one another), it's still better to wear a mask yourself, than not, and be ~6ft apart. Take best care to move your path out of the way of others, or if you're dining outside/inside to move. Restaurants/other places should be able to accommodate such spacing at this point (if they are responsible)

If you're forced in close proximity with other people, then 100% wear a mask.

The idea that the virus somehow loses muscle because of the weather isn't really how it works, though.

Nothing to do muscle as mutations can modify both the functionality and replication of a virus. There a literally modifications at the spikes.

Mutations wouldn't respond that quickly to the weather.

I feel as though seasonality is nothing more than a guess that we've just assumed is true.

The experts said from beginning that there's no concrete proof of it and all of the current hotspots are some of the hottest climates in the world.

This may actually be a good thing here in New York. It doesn't inherently have to come back in the fall.

Sucks for restaurants and staff right now. I know a few people who are servers/bartenders and they say it sucks right now.
If they are making 1/3 of what they were making I would say that is a lot.
To each their own but who wants to eat a nice meal in 90 degree super high humidity? But I guess that is the best it's gonna be for now.
Some towns have shut down main avenues to only foot traffic (ridgewood, NJ) on weekends to allow restaurants to put more tables in the street which on paper sounds like a good idea.
