I'd say the only way they can lift.thr lockdown is if we're at a point where...
1)we've proven you cant get reinfected and
2)were at point where the remaining population could all get sick simultaneously and not obliterate the healthcare system.

I haven't run the numbers but it's probably a simple formula. What percentage of infected people require ventilators since that seems to be the choke point.
what is the average amount of time someone who needs to be on a ventilator is on the ventilator? meaning how long until they hopefully get better and can pass that ventilator on to the next person who needs it? if the high risk group continues to practice a quarantine and not go anywhere into the public till lets say into the summer, the point has to come sooner rather than later for the general population who can manage their illness at home presumably if they were to get it to be able to lift the lockdown so the ventilators are available for those who may need it. plus you hope within the next month that more ventilators will be available so that can further help.

I am conceding April, but this lockdown for "most" people has to be lifted by May or else I foresee major major and potentially irreparable issues

Friday, March 13th, I believe. Though it was not as packed as usual. I WFH the day before and before that I went through the terminal every day.
you may have very well been exposed to it. I think the issue is in the densely populated areas like nyc, you are getting inundated with virus particles as opposed to passing through the city and not actually living there. I am possibly talking out of my ass here, but does it work that way? they have no way to escape it, where if you're not living there, you may be exposed to it, but not in enough length of time or quantity to get into your body to affect you. I can be sitting on the same couch with my daughter who has the flu and not catch it, is this virus really any different than that (in terms of catching it? yes I know it's not like the flu)

Well, I honestly don't know how you contract it, but I know the virus loves crowded indoor places. All I know if that I felt like I opened up a rock and saw a bunch of cockroaches scatter around when I took the path. It was ungodlily crowded, even by NY standards.

To an extent. If Congress didn't give him the funds...the funds were gutted ,etc. There's lots of things that are not the fault of the administration.

Anyways not really looking to get into a political argument. Im very tired of it.. I'm more worried about how this will crush my mother's small business more than anything. I'd be very surprised if she doesn't have to declare bankruptcy after this finishes.

Never my intent. Just found it to be relevant.

I guess the question is what caused the backlog? Was it Congress not giving him the funds? Was it just a f*** up that were paying for now? Or was it...someone in his administration...he's got lots of people...administering....

In fairness as long as that is the same stance given to Trump that's fine. He also has a lot of people administering

Any gym members here still get billed for their membership even though the gym is closed because of COVID-19? Ours usually gets billed around the 2nd of each month so I'll be interested to see what happens.

The sad truth here is there is no containing this..were gonna have to wait out a vaccine. If we could have stopped it early ..closed borders, then maybe we coulda contained it. But it's too late. At this point it's just about flattening the curve and slowing the spread to buy us time.

again, maybe that malaria pill or some other cocktail will help slow down the virus so our bodies can recover. Unless nature takes care of this Virus on its own.

Waiting out a vaccine is going to be a long while

My gym billed me. Could have been just before the state mandated closure tho. They are not a chain so harder to get in touch with them. Hopefully they do the right thing

Gotta my cat off her butt and do something. Working from home now I see she literally sleeps the entire day, she wakes up at like 5:30 pm when either my wife or I are normally getting home from work.

That’s interesting. My cat is more active when I am home. But sleeps all day when I’m not home. My cat is also looking at me as I type this and likely thinking why the f*** are you still here? Lol

Oh the PATH was flat out a non option for travel as recently as 3 weeks ago.

I literally waited on 5 different trains that were packed beyond safety protocols until I decided that I was going to drive into the city instead.

It's not so much that the virus "loves" crowded places, its just much, much easier to infect people when you're in close proximity to them. NYC's population density is crazy and this was an obvious outcome for its residents due to not shutting things down sooner.

Same with my labrador. He sleeps for 12 hours when I'm at the office. Since I'm home he's up and drinking water like a camel and wants to go to the tree every three hours.

so nyc has been a ghost town for a good week now. so cases should continue to increase for another week when the incubation period has ended, then why is everyone still predicting the numbers to climb exponentially until the beginning of May?

Crunch froze all NY/NJ/CT memberships effective March 16.

which is why they can't keep us on lockdown indefinitely. its out there just like the flu and everything else is out there. the elderly and immune compromised should be hyper vigilant in what they do to protect themselves, but for the rest of us, sure shut us down for a month to help stabilize things, but then you have to let us get back to normal. its true that the consequences of a prolonged lockdown are going to wind up being worse than the actual illness

the prolonged lockdown will ony be worse than the actual illness because the lockdown flattened the curve and saved lives

Why. Why. Why. There was a bi-partisan deal in place. The country is crumbling. Typical sanctimonious shit from congress.

Pelosi pushes forward with her own emergency coronavirus package

The idea that anyone is playing politics at this point by blocking bills seems so insane. But I guess the agendas never really go away.
Juuuust so we're clear as to what happened here (and without getting into politics), negotiations began bipartisan, but then Republicans booted the Dems from the process and worked with the administration to craft the bill, which they then presented to the other side for a vote. And the resulting bill turned out to be one big money grab for corporations (with low oversight as to its use), with little directed towards states, hospitals, or workers. Incredibly, however, it did include a specific provision that no one would even learn where the money went until six months later.

A $500B slush fun that is used at Mnuchin's discretion, and the usage doesn't have to be revealed for a minimum of 6-months (late September/early October likely)? In a presidential election year?

Yeah...no thanks. That's corrupt as hell, GOP.

Help the American people first, and then you can do the corporations later.

Small businesses need a lot of help. Lots of them will go under. Just where I live 3 businesses have all but posted that they're done because of this. My mother's business will probably go under. Luckily my wife works for the crime lab so her job is safe.

It makes me wonder if I had it but was asymptomatic. The hoard of people is insane there. Not like anything I've seen.

I would not be surprised if Trump starts sending people back to work in his update next Tuesday. He'll place restrictions on people over a certain age or with certain conditions but everyone else will be sent back.

No way that happens as early as tomorrow but I can see it two weeks or so after the curve flattens a bit. Most states are hardly even testing right... you have to be beyond ill to be treated

Twitter is rife with reports that the Goldman Sachs mafia is behind this sudden call for "two weeks and then everyone back to work" that has popped up in the last 24 hours.

I have no doubt that it is a result of pressure from the business/banking community at the very least. It's just insane though given that we've already started down this road and now he's itching to change course that quickly?
