News Article: Corey Pronman Ranks Isles Prospects

My rankings resemble pronmans rankings much more than the rankings we have on these boards.

He really did a good job and I disagree very little with what he wrote (just a couple things). And not much disagreement on his rankings either. His love for Kabanov is fading but not as much as mine. I used to think Kavanov was A Kovalev in the making now he just looks like Kvasha part duex.

If Kabanov had anywhere NEAR the production that Kvasha had by his age, Bluechipbonzo would have blown a gasket by now.

I agree with ITM that Pronman did a very nice job with this list. For someone who probably doesn't follow the Islanders that closely (as few in the media do) his list is very good.

I'd replace Kabanov with either Poulin or Pelech and be done with it.

There are a lot of future NHLers in that list, that's for sure. How much impact remains to be seen. Even outside the top ten, there are a lot of viable prospects that might have solid NHL careers if they continue to develop.

But the Isles need a couple of home-run impact players that may only come from the top four or five - maybe a defenseman or two since they have such a long development and hopefully one elite goalie!

By his count, there are at least 6 top 2 pairing Dmen in the Isles system. And that's not counting Pelech or Pedan. I'm not sure if any other organization can say that. The quality redunancy factor is what makes it so good. 50% of the D prospects could bust and we'd still have blueliners for the next 10 years.

Not really telling us anything we don't know, but I still love reading it!

My only disagreement with him is De haan over Donovan. Donovan proved himself with 2 excellent FULL seasons in college and 2 excellent FULL seasons in the AHL. The next time De haan plays a full season, will be the first full season since 2009. No way he deserves to be rated higher than Donovan. Kabanov should be out of the top ten, Anders Lee has proven himself way more at this point in time.

Nicely done, with the junior season about to begin in three weeks, getting all fired up to listen to all the games again this season. As I did last year during Thanksgiving, making a trip to Canada, hope to catch some live junior action again.

Kvasha also had a 51 point season in the dead puck era.

I was as frustrated with Kvasha as anyone else, but in retrospect it's not his fault he was traded for Roberto Luongo.

Great read...Its nice to see that Im not the Only one so high on Pulock...

Im a bit higher on Pelech but I think it speaks to our prospect depth that he is not even in our top 4 defensive prospects....

Still a lot higher on Kabanov than most of us. He ranks the Isles as the 2nd best group of prospects.

I'm still high on Kabanov. I think he has excellent vision, and that combined with his skating will allow him to round out into a nice playmaker on a scoring line. I don't think he'll ever be a prolific goal scorer, based on what I've seen, albeit that's limited to a couple of junior games, his preseason from a couple seasons ago and his injury-shortened AHL season this past year. I'm looking forward to seeing him on Bridgeport next season, and am willing to forgive this past one with the wrist injury...it's gotta be hard to rehab and acclimate yourself to the pro game at the same time.

Interesting with both Kabaonv and Pokka above Sundstrom, Pulock over both Reinhart and Nelson, and Anders Lee doesn't even make the list. I am not scoffing at the Lee ranking so much as find it interesting he is one of the few with an ELC. I take from all of that that player-ceiling is weighted higher than playability or likelihood to simply make the dance.

I can think of two posters who may be disappointed Mayfield isn't at least an 8.

Pronman places more weight on certain categories so his rankings differ from other rankings. I forget exactly what they were, but that's why he was higher on Kabanov more than most. I think he his scouting reports are pretty good and enjoy reading them.

Kabanov and Pokka are my Prospect sleepers that will surprise everyone! I said the same thing about Cizikas a year ago. I believe both will be huge factors!

Can't really call Pokka as a sleeper, he was a high second round pick. Kabanov who knows what to expect but at least he trained with Gary Roberts group this summer (so did Pedan). Give him a pass because of the injury last year but the time has come to show something.

Totally agree. I was very surprised to see Kabanov's #'s last season at the Bridge...2G 7A -7 in 32 games. He really needs to show some offense this year and hopefully show that last year was an anomoly.

"Kabanov struggled with the pro-level pace this season, having to, at times, be quite sheltered at even strength. His defensive game also was a notable issue. It was hard to pinpoint how much of his issues were due to injury or not".

Has to transition from the almost ppg numbers in the Q to at least be a key forward in the AHL. Not sure if I share Pronman's confidence in KK. If he's not scoring, he's a liability on the ice but I hope he rebounds hard and plays like he has something to prove.
