With Vancouver seemingly looking to clear space, and most reports suggesting Garland is available I wonder if there is a deal to be made between Toronto and Vancouver.

It's not a secret I like the player a lot and have since he was in Arizona.

GM's and staff like to bring in players from their former teams, and I wonder with Shane Doan working in Toronto is Garland a guy Toronto takes a run at?

Doan would know him from their time in Arizona together while Doan was in management there.

What could a deal look like?

The Leafs are better off using their cap space to go after Bertuzzi, Barbashev, and/or keeping O'Rielly, Bunting.

If we play fantasy land where Leafs really want Garland, he ultimately has negative value if no cap is coming back, as is reported a free asset with no takers. It would be something like Murray for Garland + 3rd round Pick. So they get out of the Garland contract 2 years sooner. They could then buyout Murray and save 4.26M in cap space in year 1, and then save 2.95 in year 2 (vs Garland cap hit).

The Leafs would be better off re-signing Bunting than trading for Garland.

No they wouldn't, even if they scored the same amount of points Garland is a better fit because he's not going to make himself a target for officals like Bunting chose to do.

Zero percent chance Leafs trade for Garland
Nobody to trade for him
No need to trade for him
No cap space for him

Vancouver no longer has their hands tied after the OEL buyout. If you think Garland is still available for free or with a sweetener attached, think again.
I'm gonna need some clarification here....

Garland was offered up to the league for free with no takers.

Vancouver buys out OEL creating themselves some cap space.

Somehow these two seemingly unrelated events made Garland's value to other teams around the league suddenly worth more?

How does that work exactly?

Delusional. No one wants him as was widely reported by Seravalli. Would be shocked if he was traded for a 7th rounder with no Salary was coming back the other way.

Is Garland not a free asset at this point?
He was but Vancouver after buying out OEL aren't over the barrel like they were before. They still need to trade a winger if not two but aren't desperate. Saying that were not expecting much of a return at this stage either.

Cap compliance is your answer we were literally over the cap and needed to dump salary.

According to you... the god of deciding ridiculousness 🤦🏻‍♂️

How much do you wanna bet Leafs don't trade for Garland? I'll bet you anything...

They may not, but it's ridiculous to say there is 0 chance.

And saying They don't have the cap space is objectively wrong and you should know that because you are a Leaf fan.

The only way to know for sure Garland was offered for free would be if Garland was put on waivers then him going UNclaimed. Garland gets a lot of hate, yet since joining the Canucks he is 2nd in 5 on 5 scoring behind Miller I believe.

Garland played well in Arizona when Tocchet was coach no?

I could see Garland being offered for a return as close to the Bjorkstrand deal as possible(before the OEL buyout) but I doubt they would give him away for free when he is all that remains from that regrettable trade.

I would like to see Garland used on the PK, his tenacity might translate to a decent pk guy. Would up his ice time and production as well used in 3 on 3 OT

They don't have the cap space FOR HIM...
You're one of those nit-picking, make things literal to prove your own point kind'a guy aren't you... yes the Leafs have cap space but have raises to pay and a roster to fill... and that's objectively correct...

Murray dump for Garland might make sense but the whole point in dumping Murray is to free up cap space... not to reallocate it to a player like Garland...

Plus, Leafs already have a Garland prototype on their team, his name is Nick Robertson... for less than 1/4 the price...
No need, no trade

0.01 percent chance Leafs trade for Garland

Nick Robertson can't stay healthy enough to be anywhere near Conor Garland.

If Robertson wasn't constantly hurt maybe he could be Conor Garland, but he is so he can't
